Novarossi 91 engine update!
Hello all, I just bought this engine with the Rex H9 pipe that comes with it. Is there any special or particular way you found on breaking in this engine and tuning?

I have the first version of the .91 with the H9 pipe. I haven't run it in around 2 years. I remember that I did have to put a small head-shim in it. I was burning Rotor Rage 20%.

It had the original 2-needle carb, which I later replaced with the 3-needle. I haven't run it in this configuration yet. I do remember it running very well, butI didn't fly it much past the break-in hovering flights.

I hope to get that machine up in the air again soon, but as of right now I can't say much. I do remember liking the engine, though.

They come already broke in! but I have always run 5 tanks thru the engine before leaning for power. Make sure you use the correct head shims depending on your nitro fuel %

Tune the engine by temping the back of the head. It's hard to tune by sound because there isn't a engine that sounds like it...

Feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions....

The manual will tell you, but it's going to depend on a few things. A big one is your altitude.

Thankfully I'm only at about 1,000 ft asl. So air is good, but heat and dryness no goodHeliDirect Field Rep, Synergy N7 w/ OS 105, Torq Servos, Cyclone/ Rail blades

Okay manual says there is a .3mm shim installed already. And I need .4mm for 30%nitro. I know just add the .1mm shim. BUT there is no .3mm shim installed already from factory. I took the head off and there is no copper shim. Just metal to metal.

And it can't be factory .3mm metal to meatl because if you have to take .1mm off for 10% nitro, you can't. So I'm confused here. No shim that .3mm??

Nevermind guys. I researched helidirect for shims, and showed one being silver(the .3mm) one. Stupid of me not to research it first. Should be all good now. Inserted one .1mm copper shim for 30% fuel, for .4mm totalHeliDirect Field Rep, Synergy N7 w/ OS 105, Torq Servos, Cyclone/ Rail blades

Greyeagle: was there really that much power? Can't wait to test it, and to know only 5 or so tanks to break in is good!HeliDirect Field Rep, Synergy N7 w/ OS 105, Torq Servos, Cyclone/ Rail blades

I have 2 that run really well on 30%. IMO they pull better than my os motors did. It turns a little harder And runs a little hotter. But over all I like them.mike (mhawk)

You have the correct shims in the head so that's good. I run my Rossi 200-220 deg just make sure it doesn't get to hot. The Rossi like a high RPM also 2050-2150 range... Let me know if I can help anymore...

Thanks for the replies guys! I can't wait to fire it up.

Helinewby: did you just break it in slow flying it around? Or how did you do it? I readjusted the needles to 1/4 turn richer from stock/standard settings. The needles were way off also. Good thing I checked. One was really leaned out.

Lot of Family - Manufacturing Changing
Going on thru out the Rossi Linage - But hey have alway's been the Leader : I'm a LUST for Rossi Guy. Think I got 3 45's, 6 or 7 .81's a 1.05

Common For us in the 80's to EASILY get 20,000 out of a .81 on 5% only go to 10% on a Show Demo Day.

tREAT IT WITH UP MOST CARE : Wait till you study the Original Rossi - Plug's. They are not CHeap

I'd be flying my Bigger Rossi Stuff - But I can't afford to feed them - Easy Gallon a Day and I fly a LOT

The Rossi - Line : IS WHAT set the standard for ALL the Rest and their still trying to catch up to the Family of Witch Doctor's !!!!!

Personally I'd Never run 30% but their stinking tough - all depends on the Lube package and your experience.

I run a Kung foo Knock Off in My Raptor - and treat it awful. Not for performance or weight but for long life time. If I could run it on JP - 4 I'd do it. But It fly's and it's got some nasty habit's - The Knock Off was CHEAP ! I've pushed it over 340

CB: will do. I should test it Monday when the exhaust comes in. Can't wait to break it in and give it hell!

Try a Minimum of a GAllon - Then - Be sneaky on the next three at least.

That 1st gallon is just a throw away !

Definite : Respect and trial's - It is never a push button motor -you are going to have to have the patience of JOBE ! -- More patient's than a two or three year old will ever teach you ! It will pay long turn !

keep from taking the NOn - Rossie Owners - advice

It will tell you - listen for it to tighten - up - then get out of it and fly it till it fall's back and sound's happy. It will talk !

If they insist ; Ask for $400.00 cash in advance out of their pocket and lock it in the car.

Don't even think of spanking it - it will let you know - If you are care full it will last for ever - with that new car smell.

Show respect - In a Plank that motor can easily kill you.

Even on my every day Rossies - they must come to heat in the pit's before they even leave the gate - and then some time their still not ready !!!

If you know what a Ofenhauser sound's like - That's what you got !
