Before you give up on that MAC take it to an Apple store, make an appointment first here. Type in your zip code and select a store. Then click on Genius Bar and make an appointment. They might be able to tell you what is wrong with it. If they say you can fix it try iFixit.com

The hard drive on my Powerbook G4 was going bad. Brought it in to the Apple store in town and they diagnosed the drive was failing. Told me about iFixit it. I replaced the hard drive and brought it back to the store with the old drive. They took what they could off the old drive and put in in my new drive in the MAC. Didn't charge me anything for the service and the new 250 gig drive only cost me $84.

Good luck.
This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

thanks i'll check them out...

I still have 20 months of Apple care left i sent it in to them and they quoted me at almost 900 to fix it i guess its not covered and a new macbook pro is almost 1200 dollars i think its criminal how they can charge 300 dollars for a protection plan that doesn't cover anything and the minute i said i can't really afford that now she said i'm sorry thats too bad we will mail it out tomorrow ??? Just horribe customer service not what im use too

It didn't fail because of a defect, you said yourself that you spilled water on it. No warranty covers that. If it failed in normal use they would have covered it. Nothing criminal about it.

Sometimes homeowners or renters insurance will cover you in cases like that, might be worth looking into.

I respectfully disagree

They did nothing to help me not even try...

And how can they charge $900 dollars for parts PLUS TAX AND LABOR???? is labor not covered under that protection plan????

Next time consider a square trade warranty.Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Of course it is, if they are replacing something for a defect. They wouldn't charge you a thing if your logic board had just failed without you pouring a glass of water on it. How can they help you when you poured water on it?

It's no different than if you crashed a new car. You would expect your insurance to cover it, you wouldn't take it to the dealer and ask them to fix it under the new car warranty.

I'm telling you, call your insurance company. I've seen them pick up the majority of the tab on repairs like this.

No warranty covers that.
Tons of warranties through other retailers like BestBuy, staples, amazon, and office depot have accidental coverage included in their price. And I would say they are about the same as apple's cost as well.

With how much Apple charges for computers, they should give you a second computer when your first computer eventually crashes :P (and I am sitting typing this on a mac, but one I bought on Ebay for much less than retail! )

There, fixed it for you.

That sucks that your insurance wouldn't cover water.

A good tech can do the swap in about an hour, unfortunately Apple has beat down most of the independent shops to where they have gotten out of the business altogether. If you don't feel like doing it yourself using guides online (It's not that hard if you can follow instructions to the letter), then look for an Apple specialist (Not an Apple Store). The specialists are independently owned and most have been doing it forever and are very good at fixing things. If you can't find one, I may be able to hook you up with a buddy in NH who you could send it to. We were both techs at the same Apple Specialist years ago, I left the business, he branched out and started doing it on his own keeping all the certifications. I'd bet he could beat the labor costs you'd see elsewhere.

Thank you for the correction! Definitely "insurance" and not "warranty"

But dell calls it a protection package! 400 bucks for 4 years for a 1000 dollar computer... They could do better... But then again, 900 bucks is a lot, maybe 400 is worth it.

apple care is piece of garbage
i bought a $1500 macbook pro 3 years ago from bestbuy and i also bought their protection plan from there for an additional $500. So i recently dropped my macbook and had a crack at the bottom of the screen. So i brought it to bestbuy, they sent it back to their HQ and a week later, i got a phone call from Geek Squad saying they going to replace my machine and because the cost of repair is more than the value of the machine. I went back to bestbuy and picked out the brandnew $1500 macbook pro free of charge. What im saying is apple care is a load of crap , whenever you want to buy some thing , go to bestbuy and buy their protection plan.
