"No More Tacos" Mod - Now Version 2.1 - Change batteries without canopy removal
*STARTED A NEW THREAD FOR VERSION 2.1*

This is my Version 2 of the "No More Taco" mod that I made a while back. The CG is spot on without adding any additional weight to the airframe. I was really leary after I removed the material at how stiff it would be and was pleasantly surprised and it is very apparent that the lower rail and cross members contribute to most of the strength.

There are some small structural reinforcements in the frame in certain areas I determined appropriate. I am thinking about adding a strip of aluminum mounted down the battery rails to making it even more rigid and durable than stock.

This was designed for the frame to take the brunt of the damage instead of the battery sticking out in a nose first crash. I had gone through extensive Q&A's in research before attempting this and everything has turned out great.

I am also making a lightweight strong box for the batteries which will additionally protect the batteries. I have first hand witnessed a strongbox saving me hundreds of dollars and very possible fires on other helis when they crashed nose first with batts up front.

Of course, I can't prevent all damage if its bad enough, but my goal here is to try to lessen the extent to the fragile and hazardous batteries. Thanks for looking

Update to version 2.1 - I have figured out a way that the batteries will be able to be plugged in and installed in the airframe without having to remove the canopy every time, it just keeps getting better

Wow, that looks really, really clean. This would be awesome for a V2 of the 500/600 frames.Murphy's Law Denier

Just completed the maiden and got a video of it that I'll upload tonight. Nothing crazy, I have to get larger straps to go around the batteries and frames. The climbout was a full 14 degrees of pitch and I didn't even hear the motor bog, lol I love electric power.

It looks really great in the air and man I'm already in love with the Vbar 5.2 pro can't wait to get more flights on it and check out its full potential. Right out of the box with all stock settings it simply lifted into a flawless hover even with the belt a little on the loose side.

I think I nailed the 'No Taco Mod' this time and it was just there staring me in the face all the while

Now onto the battery strongbox, I have something in mind which will make changing out the packs a breeze with no velcro on the batteries needed, just throw em in and strap em down.

I will make sure to get more vids of the 'No Taco' Logo 600 flying 3D later on.

Happy flying.

I have added a update to the mod, it looks like the batteries will be able to be installed and removed without canopy removal.

The strong box is the key to version 2.1 and is coming along and will take all of 2 seconds to install and remove once finished. I love the Logo, heck I named a one of my pet sugar gliders Logo, lol.

I tidied up the velcro for flying today till I get the strongbox completed, but once completed the velcro will not be needed on the battery rails. The rear bulkhead wall that I created will have to be moved back about 3/4 inch for some more clearance to slide the strongbox in.

Thanks for looking

Interesting, at the amps etc you'll experience you should really consider EC5 over the deans however....Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

Hey Rappy, I don't see them up at RH yet, but if your looking for bigger straps the Xxtreme velcro straps would probably work well for your project.

Nice mod, but I don't think this will protect your batteries from being "tacoed"Team Synergy, Rail blades, Team Scorpion, V-Team

Once I get the strongbox complete, they will for sure be taco proof I tested it a aluminum strongbox on my 12S 550 with quite a few nose first crashes and they were perfect. The strongbox is turning out slick.

Yea, I know about the deans, its just everything was on the batteries and I already have a deans parallel and such. I have some castle 6mm bullets I intend to switch over soon.

Good call on the Xxtreme straps. For the time being I got some 6" straps from the local electronics store and put them together with a 12" strap and it goes all the way around.

Got a vid of its 2nd flight today with me starting to 3D the thing. So far so good, no issues with the modification at all. I did some tweaks to the radio on the 3rd flight and started getting a little more into it and did some tail slides to hard pull outs and everything stayed together

The vbar is still tripping me out with the lack of inputs, but its a vast improvement over the last version vbar I had which was 4.0 with the silver sensor case.

The new camera is giving me a hard time to upload, but as soon as I get it figured out I will put it up.

Thanks for the comments.
