Question - you folks who are running the Microbeast with Spektrum satellite receivers. According to the manual, this can only be done on 450 sized helis? Is everyone following that or are some folks running this on a 500? Anyone?

I thought by using the Microbeast that I'd be getting rid of a larger receiver and some of the crazy wires, but according to the manual... that's really not advisable.

Thoughts?

The main reason for that is, that a 250 or 450 helicopters are small enough and the pilots fly those closer than the larger ones.
It has to do with the range of reception. The larger the bird, the further away it flies and the metal and carbon parts tend to block the signal at times...

Set it up and do an extensive range check. If you have reception issues on the ground... then you will have them in the air also...

MasterBlater, I wouldn't worry about using single satellite on a Trex 500 and a Beast X . Many of us at Minor Park have used it for several years now and no problems. As a matter of fact three or four of us flew them at IRCHA with all the other 2.4 Helis in the air at the same time and no problems what so ever. There have been many threads on HF discussing this subject and no one has had a problem. I wouldn't use it on anything larger because of the range. I have been flying my 500 with a Beast X and a single satellite now for four years, Stix has been flying his for two years. Hope that helps

I just finished reading "the last chapter of whats the use/ or how to fly Helicopters"

Looks like the weather forecast for tomorrow is not as sunny as they originally said just a couple days ago. Hmmm, now I'm thinking of going down on Sunday instead. (Still some clouds, but perhaps more sunshine than tomorrow at least.)

Yes, MasterBlader, I've been flying my BeastX alone with a single satellite for quite some time and I've never had any signal issues, even at pretty good distances. Actually, I think the Microbeast 2.xx manual says that you can do it with 500 or smaller helis, but then when the 3.xx manual came out, they changed it to 450 and smaller.

I don't get it... it was supposed to be cloudy all day, but the sky is clear at my place. I guess I'll head down to the field then.

Finally, my plan comes together. I'm still waiting on an MKS 8910A+ for the tail - currently using my DS520 for the tail. Also waiting on my Microbeast to arrive and SAB (red, black and white blades). However, I can honestly say that while this is NOT a clone this time, I saved quite a bit shopping on eBay and finding deals here and there.

I used three MKS 9670A+ cyclic servos. I have DS510M's if the torque isn't enough in the 9670's, but I haven't been able to find anything online saying that there's not enough torque in these servos... well, except for the Align manual - but what the heck to they know? (kidding). I'll switch them out if they don't work, but damn they're fast!

For now I'm using the HB800 gyro, which sets up easily and it worked great before my 500 clone disintegrated in the air. I'm excited to get this thing dialed in and do some 3D.

Just took it on its maiden flight. Tail is rock solid, hovers like I'm using a $200 gyro - I think there's less vibration due to the helical main gear and better bearings - I'm really surprised at how solid this feels, but at the same time its super responsive.

Scared me a bit when I hit idle up - I set the throttle curve on idle up to 95% and this 500MX motor is beyond ridiculous. Its quiet, but super high head speed. I didn't recall, Micah, where you said you set your idle up throttle curve to. I'm going to read up - but... just damn!

I'm only running a 3000mAh batteries, so I probably need to go up to 3300mAh for this heli, no?

Mine is running about 90-95 with 11t. I am running the 2600 packs because I got a real good deal on them, but if you read over at helifreak it's about 1/2 and 1/2. A lot of 3d guys love the 2600 because of the light weight, but your looking at about 3 1/2 to 4 max flight time.

Have fun while it last!

I run with Turnigy 6S 3300 mAh batteries (30-40C) from HK on my 500 ESP. At $42 each they're good batteries and not crazy expensive. Everything is stock on my bird as far as motor (500MX) and pinion (13t) and with a headspeed around 2300 (I think), I can fly for 5 1/2 minutes and still only put about 2100~2200 mAh back. (2650 is 80%).

I ran with a 2650 Turnigy nano-tech battery and it did well on a 4 minute flight with soft 3d. I didn't notice a drop in performance during the flight. I think my head speed is way above 2300rpms though. Feels like closer to 3000rpms. I'm using 90% straight across for my idle-up curve.

I also have a Pulse 3000mAh battery pack which I flew for right around 5 minutes. It wasn't even warm when I finished. Again, I flew soft 3d - well some would consider it soft 3d.

Got my MKS 8910A+ servo in yesterday and I haven't installed it yet. I'm wondering if it'll really make a difference as the DS520 is rated for 333Hz and I don't think the Microbeast supports anything higher, right? I guess its a bit faster servo is all... with titanium gears and costs more...

Splinter is running 162 main gear with a 13t giving him around 2500 at 90%
You are running 134 main gear with a 12t giving you 3033 at 95% or 2863 at 90%

all using 500mx. I am running 134 with a 11t giving me 2600 to 2800

The packs I use are Align 6s 2600's I get for $29

I saw how awesome it was in the late afternoon and I wanted to go fly after work here in the northland, but alas, I got stuck working late instead and didn't even get home until almost 7:00.

Ugh, I'm really not a big fan of my job.
