eh... didn't need that $60 bucks anyway...

I did hear someone saying that there's a club member who has access to "less-expensive" blades? Is that a black market thing or can anyone get in on that?

I need a set of 520mm's.

mhills - I'm SO GLAD you told that story. I do so many "silly" things that wind up costing me money - or damn near taking my own head off. I don't like to speak about them because I know it'll make me look stupid... I feel so much better now! Thank you!

Thanks for that link - I'm going to order those for backup. Need a set for this weekend though - probably just going to break down and go to Hobbytown and pay retail for a set of Aligns or Edge's. I'm a sucker.

Thank you guys for making me see the light of the cheap stuff. My 450 has had it's last hora for a while. Today I was just flipping it and hovering upside down and back again until one time after up righting it started dropping I gave it more cyclic and more but all this did was speed the motor up to 100% by the time it hit the ground killing all three of my align 410 servos and the fbl head. because it was up right most of the rest of it was on the ground not allot was damaged to the frame and tail. So My $55 gyro has cost me well over $200

The old saying if it seems too good to be true it probably is!

I did get some good flying in with my 250 and 500e.

Wow, all three cyclic servos? Damn, that sucks. Equipment failure is probably the most aggravating cause of crashes. I can deal with my own dumb thumb maneuvers, or discovering I set something up wrong, or forgot to tighten something, but when a product I expect to work suddenly doesn't... grrr...

C'est la vie, no?

Had to go down to osceola mo to visit my oldest at scout camp for family day. They had a leader die last night in his sleep (not is our troop) and a Grandparent air lifted today so I did get to see a helicopter today.

I am debating putting my DFC head on the 500pro. My DFC swash showed up this week. I have another one coming for the 450 along with three gear sets. I will put the last cheap gyro I have the HB800 that is a clone of the beastx, but it has the software of the very first beast. You know the one that if it had any vibration it would just tip over on take off.
I know! I know! but I already had this gyro and I would rather try it on the 450 than any of my 500's.

I spent several hours setting up my DFC head on my 500 clone this weekend. It wasn't so bad - spent lots of time adjusting the mechanical limits to find zero pitch at the optimal spot. I think my servo links wound up being around 44mm instead of the 50mm called for by the flybar trex 500 manual. I've read the Pro is around 47mm to start and you'll need to go shorter by 4 turns. The biggest issue is getting a blue light when you're checking that six degrees of aileron setting... They say the swash has to be dialed in just perfect to get a blue light with the DFC head. With the HB800, who knows...

Let me know how it goes - hopefully I'll be getting my replacement HB800 this week and I can finish setting mine up as well!

mhills - where did you get that little 1.5mm hex driver that seems to fit great when the screws seem stripped? \=]

I have three 1.5mm's that I'm ready to throw across the room...

Well I have two that I use. I think the one your thinking of is this one that is got from leaderhobby. I just got it to fill a order.
http://www.leaderhobby.com/product.asp?ID=9394001226763

My other is I think a 1.7 or a fine standard that will just work when the screw is about shot.

Got some good flying in today. Had to break in a new battery.

Had to auto my Logo 500 this morning. I lost the tail. At first I thought it was a bearing just like what happened to Darrell on Sunday but no it wasn't. Look at the photo. The rudder control rod came loose and then finally completely out. You can see the epoxy. At first it just started to piro just as I was doing a flip and I actually thought I did my first piro flip but it wasn't on purpose.
Well the auto went well as I was really up high and had plenty of rotor speed and once I hit hold the piro stopped because of the active belt. The only thing I broke was one of the landing struts and lost one bolt got lucky.

I just finished reading "the last chapter of whats the use/ or how to fly Helicopters"

Yeah, good deal there, Oppie. Glad you got away with minimal damage! I guess there's something to be said for a solid metal rod between servo and tail, but I suppose that would add some weight that Mikado didn't want in the design.

I'm looking outside at sunny skies and dead calm air... wishing I wasn't stuck at the office.
