Hey that was definately a good time out there the other evening. Thanks for the kind words about the BK 117 Medivac heli. She flys like a fine tuned machine.

I got the issue figured out on the NOTAR, so now the next move is to come back down there and maiden it. I had the motor in the ESC program settings as an 8 pole instead of a 10. I ran it up in my basement to check the numbers on my tach and they were right on the money. Next time will bring blades and see if I cant get her in the air.

The two guys that came down are regulars at the hobby store. John (shorter guy), and Tony. Very nice, laid back guys.

Cool, thanks for providing the names, Chris. Always good to see new faces at the field! Glad to hear you got your RPM issue figured out. Looking forward to seeing it fly!

Guys - I'm hunting for a couple of items:

1) Need the 2.5mm servo spacers for my cyclic servos (Hitec) for a 500. Do these typically come with the Trex 500 kit or do you have to buy them separate? Does anyone have 6 or 8 of these - will gladly purchase!

2) Need shims/washers to ride between the top bearing block on my 500 and the main shaft stop. I noticed my 550E uses these, unless Oppie just found a couple of washers to use. I don't see anything online - can anyone point me or I'll gladly purchase.

Thanks!

...must have been really late when I was looking for the main shaft spacers. I found them on helidirect.com under the 500PRO - I may have been looking under the 500.

The servo spacers are the H50057 servo horn set? I really thought servo horns were the part you attach the ball links too? Odd...

If anyone has spares, would be awesome - if not, I'll wait for shipping.

This whole patience thing sucks...

The 500pro shims are gold lol! always sold out.
The spacers must not come with the kit anymore. I checked all my stuff that came with the 500e and no shims sorry.
Have fun while it last!

MasterBlader, I had to make my own servo shims out of some plastic I had around. I have seen them on the Ready Heli site before if you can't make some your self. By the way I have been using the HS 5245 servos for over four years in my two Trex 500 with no problems. Went through many crashes and the servos were never effected.I just finished reading "the last chapter of whats the use/ or how to fly Helicopters"

Servo horns...
MasterBlader, I bought some of those spacers for my 500 and I also noticed that it says "servo horn" on the package, but yeah, I've always known a servo horn to be the arm that the ball link attaches to. (The part that actually moves.)

Anyway, I don't know if the ones I have will work for you, but let me see how many extras I have. Now that I think about it, I thought I got them at HobbyTown... hmm...

I ordered two packages of those servo spacers (horns - whatever Align wants to call them) from Helidirect.com. I also ordered the main shaft spacers for $3 bucks...

Oppie - thought about making them myself... I was on the fence about it. I'm not "that" good at cutting things out, especially 2.5mm thick plastic. However, I am very happy to hear that you like the Hitec servos. They seem really solid.

BTW, last night I put an AR7200BX on the 550E and took off the Align 3G. I did well with the Align 3G, but I like the feel of the BeastX better... I've got it setup now, but still need to fly it and dial it in. Maybe tomorrow night!

Splinterheart - thank you! Since I ordered two packages of those spacers I should have enough, but I'll send you a PM something crops up. I was in a big hurry to get my 500 together, but since it just seems to be taking a while, I've decided to go slower and clean things up, reposition and distribute the weight better, etc.

Thanks guys!

Wow you are getting along very well! Awesome, if I would have kept the 550 I was going to put a Beast X on it from one of my 450'S

2 hours to setup the AR7200BX last night - first time I ever setup a FBL gyro from factory settings.

Took the 550E outside in the parking lot tonight, spooled it up, lifted off... OMG!

So, anytime that I would take off with the Align 3G (trying with less gain, more gain and dialed in pretty good gain), the 550E would just shimmy in the air. The entire body would shake a little bit and the vertical stabilizer would turn into a blur.

After hitting idle up, with the Align 3G, the Heli would purr right along - felt pretty good. Only thing I never liked was the tail. It always felt like the tail was sticking - even with the gain turned down - I had a heck of a time doing piro's - it'd get half way around and just freeze, regardless of where my hand was on the stick.

I'll never buy anything but the Microbeast and the AR7200BX. This has to be the smoothest, easiest ride ever. I hovered the 550 2 feet off the ground and the vertical stabilizer had ZERO vibration in it. It was like I was still on the ground. I shook it up and down a little, piro'd the tail - hit idle up - smooth as SILK!

Holy cow! There is a NIGHT and DAY difference between these Gyros. I'm ashamed that Align put their name on that thing! Everything else they make is pretty decent quality - that gyro is horrible compared to the AR7200BX.

Well now I'm upset I didn't go flying tonight! I thought I had another couple of hours of setup time, but I'm DONE! RTF! That was so easy!

If this HB800-FBL is crap I'm sending it back and just biting the bullet and spending the money for another Spektrum with the BeastX. It just flies like it should - period!

Got my TT250 all together tonight. I will need to bring it and it's evil twin with me next time.

I updated my tarot zyx-s gyro on the 450 and now it flies like the beast except when I tried doing several back flips in a row today and it lost it. I think it's the top bearing holder. After several crashes it won't hold the bearing tight anymore. I didn't crash. I was able to regain control about 20ft from the ground.

MasterBlader, glad to hear you're having a great experience with the Spektrum "BX" gyro! You're talking about the 3G and not the 3GX, right? If so, then it's no surprise that you see such a big difference because the BeastX system is definitely that good. They say that the current firmware version of the 3GX is pretty good too though, and definitely better than the older 3G.

Regardless though, the BeastX is just so much easier to set up from what I've seen down at the field. I've already decided that if I buy a 600 Pro next spring, I'm going to get the AR7200BX and just run a satellite along with it. That'll save me the money of having to buy a new BeastX and a full receiver separately.

My 500 clone setup is going to be (currently working on it) the OrangeRx 7 channel with the OrangeRx satellite receiver and the HB800-FBL unit. It'll be nice if they do update the software on the HB800 to allow operation with only a satellite receiver - if it'll work with the OrangeRx satellite then that would be another $20 savings.

The cost difference between this and the AR7200BX and Spektrum satellite is around $170 bucks, so if it works well, then its quite worth it.

My HB800-FBL unit does not work currently. I called HobbyCool - sent them a video of me attempting to initialize the unit and it just hangs. So they're sending me a replacement. The folks at HobbyCool were very nice and easy to work with, so I'm not too upset - just taking me a long time to assemble all the components for this bird.

Went out to fly this afternoon and the 550 flew really well. Went through 4 batteries and on my last flight, when I was landing for some reason I think the rotor threw a link. While I was slowing the blades down she eased over to one side and just dug her blades into the rug.

I got her shutdown - no damage except for the blades - and the link is missing completely. That was very strange, but I think the link popped off before the blades hit - it was already sitting on the ground before it started easing over to the side and I couldn't get the heli level with aileron, so...

Either way, I've gotten 5 really great flights out of the 550 with this new gyro. Should be able to fix up this weekend.

Bummer!
Sorry to hear about the tip-over and busted blades. I know it's better than having a link pop off while in the air, (can you say "exploding helicopter"?) but still...

Talk about exploding heli. That is exactly what my tt250 did. Another dumb moment for me. I forgot to put the screw in the servo horn for the tail. Just as it was getting light on the skids it threw the entire tail control rod. Striping the inside tt gear and bending the tail rear drive shaft. Oh well back to my old reliable 250Have fun while it last!
