Thank you for a great time at Fun Fly at Longview! I had a great time and it was nice to see old friends at the field flying together or simply hanging out. Thanks for the Heliproz gift certificate! Lots of great prizes!

Also a big thanks to One Big Junker and Pascal for telling me about the Optipower and the Scorpion backup battery systems. I bought one of the Optipower last week and I am totally pleased with this little backup power device for my receiver and servos on my 550e. I'm going to get one for my 700e too. What will they think of next?

Great time indeed! Another great Fun fly! I did have to retire my lava lamp and give it to my son so I could have a safe place to put my work of art! It is the only safe place in this house!

Have fun while it last!

great time
Was great to see you guys! I hope whoever won the binoculars trail cam and sunglasses enjoy them. Thanks to all who put this together and to all the companies who donated. I know I didn't have a Heli to fly, but appreciate the offers from Dennis and Dave to pet me fly theirs. Was a good time seeing everyone. Hopefully I'll bounce back from the engagement ring purchase soon and get a Heli put together.

Our Fun Fly was indeed a success despite the weather forcast and it certainly had a rainy beginning, but we stuck to the plan and eventually the rain gave way to sunnier skies!

A big thank you to all the club members who had a hand in making this year's Fun Fly possible! I was really glad to see so many great prizes being made available, but even more than that, I was glad to see those great prizes leave in the hands of the pilots who participated! Thank you guys, for coming out and flying!

Here's to a great 2014 and looking forward to 2015!

In less encouraging news...

I put the other 2 Turnigy batteries on the charger this morning... one of them has the same issue as the first two, but this time it's the number 6 cell that is "stuck" and won't balance charge, although the behavior is slightly different.

It goes like this...

3.82
3.84
3.85
3.86
3.82 <- WTF?
3.84
3.85
3.83 <- again it drops...

... and it just keeps doing that, but in 15 minutes of watching it never went above 3.86 volts.

As for the fourth battery... cell #4 is dead.

Voltage is 1.14 volts. Will not charge. $80 gone.

I had two of my recent Turnigy like that, Trashman had one, now you have one. Turnigy's quality is not what it used to be. I also had 2 2S Turnigy 2S receiver Lipos with the balancing port wired wrong (black and red wires inverted). I am done with them.

So far the Glaciers I got from Buddy RC are fine...and they cost only a little more than a comparable Turnigy with shipping.

I had a brand new Turnigy battery come with one dead cell it was a four cell 5000 battery. I followed the warranty instructions and took a photo of the battery on the charger showing the bad cell and a photo of the special coded label on the side of the battery. You have to do this with in 30 days of the order. They sent me a new battery and got it within a week, it was in stock at the US warehouse. Hope that helps.

It was great to see everyone at the Fun Fly, it sure was a success. Thanks to everyone who helped.

I just finished reading "the last chapter of whats the use/ or how to fly Helicopters"

I wish I could do that, Oppie, but I'm something like two weeks beyond the 30 day cutoff for replacement.

I looked at the Glacier batts, Chet, and I read some forum posts on Helifreak and RCGroups and other pilots seem to like them as well. The Turnigy's I got were 6S 5000 mAh 40C and I paid $78 before shipping. The equivalent Glacier with the same specs except 45C (they don't have a 40C) is $114 before shipping. To me, that's quite a difference, but it's not too bad overall I suppose.

I don't understand why some of the Glacier batteries come with EC5 plugs, but the others come with Deans/T-plugs! I was looking at the 30C 4500 mAh, but it has the T-plug, but if I go with a 45C 4000 mAh, it has an EC5. (I guess it's the higher C rating that warrants the need for an EC5.)

So what would you guys recommend for a 550e Pro (730MX motor)? A 30C 4500 mAh ($86), or a 45C 5000 mAh ($114)?

Yes, the biggest I buy is 3700mah, but I don't fly like you.

My Synergy is 12S, so the recommended batts for it are 3300mah, the 3700's are fine and work in the Logo also.
I don't think I'll buy any higher than 30C again...upon the advice of David Gray (owner of Progressive RC).

My 3300mah 30C's cost $64 shipped and the 3700's were $65, after adding shipping the Turnigy's were almost the same, Glacier warranty is 60 days and handled right here in the good ol' USA.

I just removed the Deans and put on EC5's.

I think Chet meant that David Gray advised him that he doesn't need to spend the extra money on batteries rated higher than 30C.
