That guy's got it bad!

With all of the time & $$$ he has in that, he could've just bought a real 737.

Video!
Yes, positive thinking, Micah! No crashing!

I captured a video of me doing a demo flight of the AS350 last night. It aint perfect, but I did do it in one take. There are specific steps in the startup procedure, such as testing the fire system and the hydraulics, that I intentionally skipped to save time, but otherwise it follows the normal startup.

This video is available in 720 and 1080, so if you have the bandwidth, choose an HD option and watch it full screen. If nothing else, turn up your speakers a little because not only is this thing pretty to look at, but the sounds they included are just as awesome.

I'm not sure how useful it would be, but I noticed that X-Plane has an RC aircraft available to fly. As far as practice goes, it's probably not all that useful. About as useful, I suppose, as the FPV mode in Real Flight.

A successful flight is nothing more than a series of failed crashes.

Thanks, Pascal.

Back in the real world, my bearings should (maybe) be here today so I can start pulling the old ones out of my heli in time for Saturday. I just hope it's not a motor bearing that's making that odd noise, cuz I didn't buy one of those.

What motor? I have a full set of replacements for the 500MX If I knew the size. They are ceramic. So if you need it let me know. Looks like the 500M motor uses the same.

Really cool program and set up you have there. Hope Homeland Security don't show up at your door lol!

Have fun while it last!

Thanks, Micah, but I have my doubts that it's the motor bearing. (It is a 500MX.) The main shaft blocks are pretty old as is the one-way bearing, so I just bet it's one of those. Not too worried about it. I'll get them swapped out either tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, X-Plane is fun and challenging. Just a little break away from the usual stuff.

So, the joystick I use is a pretty nice one, it uses "magnetic hall" technology, which is a system that uses a magnet and a series of sensors to determine movement, insead of potentiometers. It's a "no contact" system that allows for very precise control movements.

However, despite that advantage, the throttle slider that comes built into the base of the stick is fairly simple and not all that great. Sooo, I got an idea and plugged in my Interlink controller for RealFlight 6, which shows up in Windows as just regular X and Y axis controllers (one for each stick). The nice thing about X-Plane is that it doesn't really care what the controller is, it just sees the raw inputs, so I assigned the collective stick on the Interlink as my collective in X-Plane! As you know, the potentiometers in the Interlink controller are pretty darn nice, offering a much higher resolution than the throttle slider in my gaming joystick.

So I just set the Interlink alongside my gaming joystick on my desk and instead of the joystick throttle, I use the Interlink's collective stick, which gives a much smoother and precise control curve. It's great!
