I am running 800mm Maxi joker mains. I currently have 105mm tail rotors. Do I need 115mm?

Suggestions?

I am just now setting up the HeliCommand with the Reactor X2 regulator. I have not flown this machine since the 800 stretch. I just want to have everything right before the maiden. I set the headspeed at 1700 on the CC esc gov.

1700 is normal for 700mm blades, and too much for 800. I think 1400-1500 is the max RPM you want to run on 800s.
There is a downside in using 800 blades for flying lightweight machine. It is more sensitive to winds, and have a sail like behavior. If you are going to haul a 550D, you better stick with 700s. Even with a 5D.

If I were using the 1700 head speed, It would be a safe bet to just change them out to the 115mm. before the maiden.

As I said, I have not had her up yet. Just want to ask imperative questions before I fly. Swinging 800mm blades is no joke.

My HS now is governed at 1700. I should lower it to 1500rpm?

You'll be on the safe side if you start experimenting from 1400RPM.

Gotcha. Thanks for responding. I will use 1400rpm to see/feel how it goes.

Does anyone have a FOO SHIELD?

I would def go bigger with your tail blades... you don't want that tail breaking loose.... do it..

I have a GSR Gasser running 800's.... runs in the 1400-1600's..
Bigger tail blades will give you good authority.

Also, even in GOV mode you can have a head speed drop during a hard maneuver... the tail can break loose from loss of speed.

Also.. you have the Castle HV? or the Castle ICE HV...
I have a regular HV (not ice) and the gov is junk... hate to say it.

Matt, I have the 110HV, not ICE. I have had this for 1 year, 50-60 flights, couldn't be happier. So the 115mm are the way to go?

Yeah.. def go bigger with the blades... 115 should be good. Anything more than the 105's

I see you have the regular HV...

I know that a little while back they changed the GOV in the firmware.. like "set RPM" or something..

I just never had much luck with it.. looks like your having good luck with the GOV with that new GOV revision in the firmware they added a while back..

My heli just surged so bad with the regular GOV they had in the past..
Makes me want to try it out again... I'm not trying to spread fear, but there have been some bad burnups on the castle while using GOV..

I do think that it may not be all castle's fault though... it may have been the setups itself that may have added to the burnups... they need to be dialed in pretty well with the right pinion, headspeed, and throttle percentage all lined up so that it is running efficient.

But anyway..
good luck

We run 133mm tail blades on an sr20 that swings 880mm blades. Works very well.

Planning on running 115's on an 800 coptercam5e I'm putting together for a buddy. Would think that would be the way to go.

On the CC link, you fill in the blanks of the specs on your setup. If you complete properly, your heli will fly properly. I could use the HeliCommand gov, but chose to use the CC.
