The blades lose their 'BLING' factor if they are not shiny. Perhaps that is why rough finish blades never caught on.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

The 'textured' blades were the wrong implementation of a technique that does work in certain circumstances. For the r/c heli pilot, in reality this technology is going to be best exploited by the speed-run guys.

When you get into 3D, you can throw most of the advantage of the vortex generators out. The "testing" with the TST blades was done by data logging vertical climb outs. In that scenario the TST blades did reduce the load on the power system. When came to how we actually fly these helicopters, they didn't make a difference.

depending on the Reynolds Number, rough surfaces can have an advantage because the laminar flow over the airfoil can separate sooner. Below is a graph illustrating the drag coefficient based on the Reynolds Number. The Reynolds number is dependent on the size of your airfoil, speed and other factors.
