Didn't expect anything less of Justin. Being a kid with his old man financing and pushing him that flight was not a surprise at all. I'm just wondering whats going to happen to him when he discovers girls and cars when teenagerhood arrives. Is going to be interesting to follow his progress through the teen years.

At nine years old I was lucky to have a rubber powered balsa stick plane.
Damn that ground is hard! When's the right time to get out of this money sucking hobby?

At least you had balsa.

I had rubber powered bamboo stick with rice paper plane. I had to bend the bamboo stick by getting it near the candle light to bend it in a wing shape. I had no help from my dad. I don't recall ever getting one off the ground. But, I never gave up.

I think I would have gotten farther with a balsa rubber powered plane.

I had no help from my father either. My father flew control line models in the 40's-50's and he never encouraged me to fly anything. Even when I bought my first 30 size plank kit when I was 15(eons ago) his first comment was "You're going to crash it". He didn't even offer suggestions on how to build it. With my son I made sure I didn't repeat what was done to me. I taught him to fly and we also built a plank together THEN he discovered girls.... As of this past Christmas I got him an MCPX heli. Looks like the heli bug has bitten him now.
