Ha, this is funny. I made a little oopsy here when I misjudged the collective pitch value on my vbar. I unknowingly increased it by 4 degrees to reach 17 degrees collective pitch! I've verified the blade is straight in the grip by testing the same postive & negative pitches after fixing the issue.

Let me tell you the flight was allot of fun, but only gave me 4 minutes flight time by nature of electric motors. My pitch gauge maxed out at 15 degrees, but to make it parallel with the flybar rod it would have to exceed 15. I guess about 17. Live and learn.

That's ludicrous pitch. It's gone into plaid.
I believe ridiculous pitch is somewhere between 14 and 15 degrees.

Numba one: set warp factor ludicrous. Engage!

You know, in retrospect I know now that I was literally stalling the blades at full collective and then adding some cyclic. Likely I was also in danger of a boom strike, but it was a testiment my NEU 1920H 1Y motor powered through it holding head speed awesomely. So in effect the blades were up to 20+ degrees with cyclic.

Fortunately I did not have any mechanical binding on the workbench, believe it or not. But I myself could not believe it when I finally put the pitch gauge on. The lesson learned is don't be lazy and adjust pitch without measuring with the gauge... unless you've written down what each number value is for the various pitch degrees ahead of time so you are sure. This was a DUH moment for me - I knew better than that.

Does anyone think I was a risk for a boom strike? If yes, perhaps the heavier flybar'd blades helped prevent a strike? Also my motor virtually didn't loose RPM.

You can boom strike with 13 degrees of pitch so 17 degrees would make it a higher chance. It also depends on how your flying and warn head parts which im sure you already know. That heli must of been a rocket with that much pitch lol..13 degrees is all I run on any of my heli's,even when I had FBL ..

I would imagine at 17 degrees the blades were near stalling and lagging behind more so I would estimate that your chances of boom striking was more.

Thanks, I think so too. I learned some lessons from this the easy way, fortunately. I'll be tightening my blades down more firmly any way, but I've reduced down to 13 degrees and love it.

Side note: In reading about someone's Goblin boom strike there was talk about pre loading. I wonder if the blade lag is pre loading? Interesting discussion.
