I've been flying my 700N with a 91 alot lately and it does drink the fuel. I went through a whole $37 gallon last Saturday. My 50 will run 14 minutes on a tank in idle up. A gallon lasts me quite a while with it. Guess that's why I have 5 Helis in my fleet. Love the 700 though!!

Electric vs. Glow
currently only flying electric and enjoying them! I have had the itch to get another glow heli again lately but with all the new electric helis hitting the market it will be a while before I own another glow heli...I will again tho...

If they got rid of elecric helis I would leave the hobby!!...

OMG not this again ! hey while we are at it, flybars are dead, or how about belt drive tails are dead, seriously some people must have nothing better to do than argue over a non-issue, i mean really people nothing will ever die unless people stop buying it, end of discussion ???

My point for this thread was to highlight the fact that glow and other combustion engines are STILL Fun to fly

and industry still developing products to support this market in the form of better helicopters, engines and mufflers.

This is not put down on electric, they have their place too.

The thread title is pure sarcasm to provoque chatter and dialogue. BUT PLEASE, dont turn it into an N vs E match.

There is no N vs E.

They are purely two diferent and distinctive ways to power your RC model.

Use what you like!

Lets talk about what's new and better in glow and gas models.

The ability to run the new big bore glow engines on 15% nitro and get the same if not more power than a 91 on 30% is a big plus.

60% of the time, it works every time!

Electric helis are here for the long haul...same as nitro but I think in the grand scheme of things, lipos will be a flash in the pan...Pun intended

Seriously though, they are hard at work to do away with lipos...thank goodness.

I literally never use the word literally right.

Electrics and nitros will always be around . Newbies start on electrics and eventually grow out of flight times and go nitro as well as nitro guys go electric . Everyone has their reasons for one or the other ,I like electrics for quick road side flying or vacations ,nitros for everyday learning then the turbine just for the once and awile whoowees !!! also I pull out the 35% yak and beat it with some hard 3D with gas .I wish I could control my wife and kids like I do my RC toys ,this not meant in a bad way guys .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

I love my battery powered and my nitros. But my nitros a little more.. What got me to thinking why was when my 3 nephews were over a few sundays ago and i was out in the yard flying my 600. I landed, pulled the battery and let them look at it. They were fascinated by it. Of course i put in a new bat and flew around a bit with them behind me. They kept asking me the whole flight if they could fly it. I never answered just concentrated on keeping a safe distance. I then brought out my vibe 50 and my 90. I cranked up the vibe and as soon as that engine rumbled and smoke poured they jumped back and mouths dropped open. They were in complete awe... They never asked once to fly that one. They didnt say a single word or move a muscle until i landed.
That very same thing happens to me everytime i start those motors up. That feeling cant be beat with a stick... Or an electric motor for me.

Now _that_ would restore my enthusiasm for electric. I like everything else about it fine.

I wonder what technology will replace it. Hopefully something capable of charging quickly and isn't so sensitive when it comes to storage or depletion, etc.

As for future directions with nitro, I think the big blocks were just the right medicine at exactly the right time. Electric's main advantage is power and it's main weakness is flight time (at high power outputs anyway). The 120 and 105 at least get you in the same ballpark as electric in terms of power, but give the longer flight times as long as your tank is big enough . This will be really important in the nitro market IMO.

Maybe this will also start a trend away from having to use high nitro fuels which will lower the fuel bill (one of nitros weaknesses).

I'm also hoping they'll enable nitro versions of 800 class helis. A 91 is probably completely underpowered for a heli that big, but the 105 and 120 may be enough to get a nitro market started there....

I know there is so much room to improve the gassers. Is a matter of who is going to cough up the money to produce them.

I still prefer e power but watching these nitro threads has made me get one of my nitros off the wall

I haven't even attempted to fly my nitros in a long time...now I'm looking forward to flying it tomorrow

Fly what you want, but at the same time remember in such videos you are watching a professional, who has the experience to tune it professionally and also to fly it professionally with professional collective management. In joe blows hands it could be a bog master. There is always alot to consider when claiming and such based on videos, be well.

^^^ +1 it seems with electrics before you get new design or bigger power built they come out with bigger and better . Nitros are released and are solo for sometime before the next big thing comes out .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

from rons newsletter:
The Miniature Aircraft Whiplash Electric is nearing the end of its first production run. Next, and coming soon, is the Whiplash Nitro 90. We have quite a few orders for this machine; about twice as many as we had for the Electric. If you want one, give us a call and we'll make sure you get one as soon as possible. Miniature Aircraft is still saying the kits will be ready some time in December, but I wouldn't be surprised if it leaks into early to mid-January. I am very proud of what Miniature has accomplished with the Whiplash. They have created a model that is innovative and durable, with precise components made in the USA. I'm sure the level of pride experienced by Whiplash owners is off the charts. Order one today and see what I mean.
