Agree the guy was a jerk, I would not waste my time talking to him, you will most likely only get more frustrated.

On the HS, when I first tried to fly my 500 years ago, I too thought lower HS, unfortunately it was VERY unstable at 80% with a stock motor and a 12 tooth pinion. I cranked it up to 90 and it immediately flew better. Later I learned the T500's are know for this, I installed a 13 tooth pinion and run 100% throttle curve. For whatever reason, the 500 reacts differently than a 450 or 600 to low HS.

+1 for this guy being rude and a bunch of other terms I will not use. I do not consider myself a pro but I have heard people giving advice that I would call "incorrect" but NEVER stepped in like that. Don't get me wrong either I do not think your advice was incorrect. If anything the guy could have simply stepped in and warned about low head speeds on the 500. It is true that to low will cause a wobble but you do not need to hover with a ridiculous rpm either, that will potentially make it very jumpy and intimidating.

Lower head speeds are fine for a new person, PERIOD!
Does anyone see the irony of writing out "PERIOD" and ending with an exclamation point, QUESTION MARK
I guess when the Dood makes his statement, no one has a right to post thier advice or opinion.. btw, lower headspeeds are not always the answer.

...he ended it with an exclamation point! What were we all thinking post after the doods exclamation point? Come on guys next time we see doods exclamation along with the ending word PERIOD, we all need to step aside and not post anything... he's the dood!

Exactly! He is taking this too serious. I did it all in fun as he did regarding the original qote from the other member! Thats why I made the statement "he's the Dood!" geeze he took it way to far beyond anything but a wise crack! I've always respected his threads and post replies but this is way out of the park.

Head speed
I think before you move, go back to that field and see that Pro once again. Tell him that after a serious thinking session, he was right about head speed. Tell him that he should keep the speed that his head is going, and before long, it would get past his anus and comes out on top in no time. LMAO.

Sent my instructor over to retrain the Pro in question:

"I am Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, your new heli instructor. From now on you will speak only when spoken to, and the first and last words out of your filthy sewers will be "Sir". Do you maggots understand that? "

Everything boils down to the approach. You can give the most horrendous news and make it seem not as bad if you approach properly. In this case, you did nothing wrong. The way the guy approached you, you handled it well because I would have had a hard time not at least getting into a verbal argument with the guy for being a meat gazer.

Funny how he is the "pro" and sponsored (which makes no difference) but seems unable to express why he objects in a mature manor. No worries, there are plenty out there. You as a newbie can relate to how it feels trying to fly and how the sounds are intimidating. I remember.

Sometimes being a pro just means you are out of touch with what “it used to be like” when you were not a pro. Nothing wrong with toning it down… so it bobbles a bit or twitches, or is not as quick… or the tail wiggles a bit... none of that matters as a newbie. You don’t need the raw power or the super-fast collective, or a finaly tuned machine to learn how to fly (or the shiny metal parts). Keep it docile and learn. As you both do you can turn it up more as you get more comfie.

Seeing as this topic was started almost 6 months ago, I'm going to guess that this is a non-issue at this point.

I think to this aggresive individual there is no "PRO" in professional.
whether the newb was giving bad advice or not that was not the way to come off.

NOT necessary.

The upside of this thread is that WE are making awareness of what should be acceptable conduct for ANY rep, from any company.

Reps are chosen mostly for various reasons, 1. Their great ability to fly. 2. Their technical knowledge of the equipment. 3. Professionalism. 4. Their ability to relate to OTHER modelers (helpful, friendly, approachable, fun)

You can have 1, 2, or 3, but without #4, you have someone out there that is detrimental to the hobby and the company who picked them.

Top sponsored pilots can be corky or shy (although not the case with most of our guys).
If you want to look at the standard of excellence in this hobby

in all areas,

for many years,

one name says it all: Curtis Youngblood

I have not read the entire thread but based on the story, I am taking the psychology of this "pro" and establishing that hes not really a rep, hes not a pro, hes not sponsored... hes just some average flyer trying to look knowledgeable to the noobs. Seen it many times. A real pro would teach someone proper methods and tune the machine down for them to make it easier to learn (head speed, expo...etc.) I dont go to many flying fields but if I did, I would certainly want to be aware of these type of characters. These types of people are usually the ones passing off wrong information and are most likely the people that hide among us scamming people such as James Moore.

He sounds like the average ego maniac. High head speeds can be more stable but also make the birds reactions faster than a starting out pilot can deal with. Everything is a specific situation. He is believing that what he says is the only rule.

One more thought. There are a-holes every where. When I first starting flying,a guy asked to hold my radio(It was a top of the line Futaba)he and his buddy then started to talk about what a POS it was like I wasn't even there.
