For cruising, scale like flying and economy what head speed can be run on the HD version with 640 mm blades? I've seen head speeds listed as low as 1500 for cruising? Thanks.

1700-1800 rpm is the sweet spot that I get for "economy" on the rotortech CF640s. with that and the "standard" pitch range of neg 11 deg thru + 11 deg.

Anything lower than 1700 and the G20 Rad just seems a bit too sluggish and does not seem to "stablize" enough for my taste. Besides, you need a healthy HS to get you out of trouble, especially if you have one of those "too close to the ground" moments.

I run mine at from 1700-norm, 1900-idle1, 2100-idle2...but i'm running a balanced and modded engine.

No its not the Hanson, I modded it myself , (Titainium rod, higher compression, etc.) I use the 14T with the 640mm blades. Really does well with the CF640s, If the weather settles down want to try the 13T and crank up the RPM on the engine (same HS) and see how much more "pop" I can get from the setup as more torque will be available from the engine gearing. Summer time will allow me more time to mod and change out materials on the heli to get her on a weight loss program...already have a Titainium Main shaft that is half the weight of the steel stock unit...

HS and ES with the 13T Pinion Gear (6.923)

HS 1805 at 12,500 Engine Speed

HS 1877 at 13,000 Engine Speed

HS 1950 at 13,500 Engine Speed

HS 1993 at 13,800 Engine Speed

HS and ES with the 14T Pinion Gear (6.428)

HS 1944 at 12,500 Engine Speed

HS 2022 at 13,000 Engine Speed

HS 2100 at 13,500 Engine Speed

HS 2146 at 13,800 Engine Speed

I would like to see a Ratio around 6.700, this would give,,

1940 at 13000

2014 at 13500

What gear does the HD come with? Will I need a different gear to run the 640's?

My HD had came with the 14T, I assume yours did too.
the 640s work just fine with the 14T, if you have the 13T, its no big deal, try them both, see what fits your flying style....

Gearhead,
yeah my engine likes the 13,500 rpm band...but it gets thirsty during the winter with the richer settings and colder air, I get about 14 minutes on a tank with her screaming at 2100HS

""my buddy tacked the head speed at 3003""

you better check that Head Speed again, I can't see that being right, just guessing but that would give you an Engine Speed around 16,000 or more depending on the Gear Ratio,

if you meant 2003 that would sound better, but you did not say what your Full Throttle Pitch is, if your Pitch is around 10 or 11 degrees and you want to lower the Head Speed from 2003 just raise the Pitch 1 Degree and or lower the Throttle Curve too, then check your Head Speed again,

adding a Speed Control would be the thing to do
