New Heli pilots in Central Fl.
My brother and I have recently begun to learn to fly helis. He is on a Hawk Pro and I am flying a Knight 50. In our last outing, I managed to half sever my tail boom and of course trash a rotor blade. I am not sure why but I suspect the blade may have tipped the ground and partially folded, allowing it to drop and catch the tail. I was descending from about two feet off the ground (as I had several times already) and one of my training gear legs broke. Doesn't look like it hurt anything else but I'll be looking... Anyone in the Orlando area that might be willing to assist a few newbies with setup on these monsters? We've been able to get them off the ground a foot or so but would really like to spend more time learning and less time fixing.

Look up Torchs, they are the premier flying club in Central Fl. when it comes to Helis. I am sure there is someone there who will be able to help. Great field and great people.

Come on out to the Torchs field and you'll find plenty of help.

Just go to the website for directions.

We were up there last Wednesday. Had a great time and met a few of your members. We were both really impressed with some of the stuff we saw you do with these models. We'll see you again!!!

When learning to fly, make sure you do not have more than -2 degrees pitch im your collective. In a panic you will pull full down collective which with negative pitch will slam the bird down hard flexing the blades enough to whack the tail boom off. (Called a boom strick).

Here is a series of videos that should help, this one is called day 3, but the whole series is great.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Boom strike...
Had my run in with the boom already but it was, I believe, due to a mechanical failure. Almost have it back in in the air now. Just need a set of blades and a little tweaking.
