The radio isn't what makes a heli capable of doing 3D moves. The radio only transmits what your thumbs do to the servos in the heli.

The moves are up to you.

Yes the DX6i is a capable radio and you can go a long way with it and your 500.

Set the heli up correctly (get help if you can), then practice, practice, practice. Properly set up, the 500 can be a killer, small heli and will do anything you ask of it.

The radio is not bad for a beginner, as your skills improve and you want a better transmitter, then would be the time to buy one. And the 6i could become your SIM radio!

The DX6i is a great radio to grow with. One mod you might want to consider is the backlight mod. I did this so I wouldn't forget it on.
