Given the information we now know I think Patrick needs to provide a verifiable source for this story. It seems odd that outside of the original story Patrick authored no other independent source appear to confirm the story.

I also contacted a friend who is a CAR member (with access to the full member area) and they were unable to find any reference to this warning from that group.

So the question is, where did this come from?

Same tripe about the FAA years ago... Folks that were out breaking the law and making money were the most vociferous (correlation between money and protest?) in their condemnation of reality. "Information about impending regulation or change to the hobby rules is unsubstantiated without proof," "I know the Administrator's dog walker, and he said I can do whatever I want"... yada, yada, yada. All added up to years of denial and inaction.

Further California Film Commission statement...

You need to get yourself educated, or not. Up to you, but some folks might find the information and alert useful.

Both are nice references, however neither one bears on the story you posted specifically about LAPD taking up enforcement action against such operators nor the CAR warning cited in the article.

In fact, the second one references YOUR article, so it cannot be your source.

Do you have a citation for the CAR or LAPD statements?

Your first paragraph is interesting since it appears that you are annoyed that people are not simply taking your word as gospel. It is not an insult to be asked to provide a reference for what you say. Sorry you took it that way.

Information is only as valuable as it is accurate. Unsubstantiated articles with no verifiable source have no educational or informational value.

Rather than insult those who ask questions, why not simply answer the question?

Not really just a long litany of chuckle heads muddying the waters.

Disregards the regulations and that RC AP for hire is illegal, against film commission policy and split hairs on enforcement. Not my gospel, your trying to pick a fight with the wrong dude. Call the FAA, LAPD, CAR whoever you like, or don't and proselytize your own gospel.

todski,

Haven't heard for sure on that one. You will need a class 2 medical because the FAA flight surgeon say's its commercial! If, it is required (military asks for it, but most of their stuff is BLOS), they probably wouldn't want to say so till the NPRM because of a PR firestorm. They estimate 100,000 responses to the NPRM. The ARC 2.0 will help them weed through those and come up with answers. Look at the list of participants.

However, you will need some sort of pilot certificate to fly. Some sort of aircraft certification, and manuals and what not for your system. ASTM was talking about emulating MIL-STD 3001.

Least restrictive will be under 2 kilos 4.4 lbs. II will be reserved for defense contractors and folks with lot's of money to exploit. The III bin 4.4 lbs up to 19.8 lbs will be more restrictive and next to impossible to make money in. In all of these case they want to require a certificated observer with a class 2 medical.

It get's worse...

Seriously. You write a story and spread the link across several forums and when you are asked for the source you tell those people that they need to get educated or whatever and contact the alleged sources themselves?

Nobody is arguing that the FAA does not allow commercial AP until the regs come out. But you wrote a story about the CAR getting a letter from the LAPD about that, and now are totally unable and unwilling to provide a shred of proof. There is nothing on the CAR or LAPD websites, but now you want to transfer the burden for proving what you say is correct to others??

How about this? We take your inability or reluctance to back up what you write as an indication that perhaps you are not a very reliable source of information?

I am not trying to pick a fight. I am merely asking you to stop insulting people and simply prove what you are saying about the LAPD contacting the CAR and "clamping down" on AP using RC aircraft. And again, no question that the FAA and California film commission have done so, but that has nothing to do with the title or content of your story.

My "gospel" is this, if you cannot prove what you write, then do not write it.

Here is everything you need to know about working in the City of Los Angeles:

http://www.losangelesworks.org/reso...egistration.cfm

No idea on the film permit fees.

My small business pays about a 3% rate on all the business we do in the City of Los Angeles. Registration for a BTRC is free (IIRC). There are also exemptions for really small businesses, but you are still legally required to have the registration.

Thanks again.

I cannot do this as I have no proof of income from RC photo or video, but If I made my living from it like some on this forum do I would contact talk show host a FOX NEWS like Hanity . Get on TV and stir up the masses using the mantra "The goverment is overextending itself on the small business person and killing jobs"

should be picked up by someone in the TV biz

All of this really pisses me off! You got Barney with a helicopter flying around thinking he know's all. Now they have to add Terrorism to make is sound bad. It could be what airspace the aircraft was in at the time of the siting. Its not like we can sit at home and fly 500 miles away take pics and fly it back home! Ask Obama why the Faa is taking jobs away from us. Oh that's right not his idea!

It all boils down to the all mighty dollar!

So why bring it up like that? This effort started under Bush. I can recall in 2000 when we got a COA for a model event (you could actually get them then) that the FAA airspace manager told us that these rules were being worked on. This is an apolitical process and it makes me weary to see people try to use it to make some political point. Just like it makes us all mad when the ignorant press tries to make it about terrorism or whatever.
