Both are great radios. Plenty used for sale with the 18 out now. Same basic radio with expanded programming and color screen and tunes if the price is what you want you should be happy

I have had the 14MZ and currently have the 18MZ. All though the 14MZ is a great radio, you will notice some latency while flying if you have been flying an 8FG. If you just have to have a 14MZ, you can find them used here. But if you just want a step up from your 8FG, you are better off buying the 18MZ.

I have had both since they came out. The 8FG is a great radio but I find navigation around menus and adjusting values with the scroll wheel to be long-winded and inaccurate compared to touch screen programming on the 14MZ. Also, the sticks are better on the 14. I only use my 8 for the simulator these days.

I have (had) both too. One big difference is the 8FG is 1 lb lighter than the 14MZ.

Not sure I see the advantage. The 8FG (with the latest firmware update) is a 14 channel radio already and is a later generation. The interface isn't going to be as nice, but it's going to be pretty close in functionality.

I don't like the iPod touch-pad thing (it's just iffy), but I like the radio itself so much I'm more than happy to put up with it.

For that kind of cash I'd personally just go get the bank loan and do the 18MZ

That's what I am saying. If you already have an 8FGH and want to upgrade, the 18MZ is the upgrade choice not the 14MZ.

I'd assumed the OP was talking about a used 14MZ so at a different price level from the 18. If we're talking purchase of a new Tx, I'd absolutely advocate choosing the 18MZ. Its only possible downside is that it's 2.4 only so if you still have part of your fleet on other frequencies (as I do), you still need another Tx.

I have ended up with an 8FG for the sim and travelling/holiday purposes, a 14MZ for my "legacy" models on 35MHz (mostly planks) and an 18MZ. My backup 14MZ now has a for sale sign on it following the arrival of the 18MZ.
