The lessons learned from a flybarred heli can be used on a flybarless, but instead of performing the changes mechanically they are now controlled electronically. The main ones which can be directly compared to a FB machine is the Hiller and Bell sliders, which alter the feel of the virtual flybar and how the helicopter feels as a result.

On a FBL machien you do need fast, yet powerful servos as it is no use having fast reacting servo's if they then do not have the torque to move the control surfaces.

Ideally setup your maximum pitch and roll rates for the 3GX while using 100% dual rate and then use the other dual rate switch position to offer a reduced rate for hovering etc.
This is what I do and combined exponential in both the 3GX PC software and on my transmitter, to obtain the flight feel I want.
Using the PC I dialled in 1~2 on the expo sliders and ran 30~40% expo in my transmitter also for idleup1 & 2 which were then using 100% dual rate. For normal more I ran 65% dual rate and about 16~20% expo for a nice hovering setup, which was precise and stable in the hover.

I found and others have now also, that V1.1 formware for the 3GX was by far the best one. While V1.2 addressed some tail piro inconsistancy issues, the cyclic performance was reduced and a much more pronounced cyclic bobble was experienced which could not be tuned out with the software.
Also the elevator became more grabby when combined with collective pitch changes, in deed a simple flip can be made to change speed with the addition of more or less collective pitch.

If you're finding the model difficult in the hover give my settings a try, I have some 3GX 550 settings which work well across the range of model sizes and are running on Align and Thunder Tiger models flying 3GX's.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I might be getting close. I'll make few more adjustment with Expo and Dual Rate and see how it goes.

What headspeed are you running ? The manual says throttle curve should be around 60% for hovering, so I may be a little high. I'm currently at 75% at lift off.

THanks again,

Still a little confused on my Swashplate mix values. Should I just leave them alone at -60 +60 -50 ? Does changing my Dual rate values have the same effect ?
