Power Lab 8 Parallel Charging Questions
I am considering moving from an iCharger 3010b to the Power Lab 8 but have a question about parallel charging, I will be parallel charging 2X6S packs for my Compass 7HV's.

The manual specifies that you should use the FMA Safe Parallel Adapters (one per pack). What is the benefit of using their Safe Parallel adapters versus using a Paraboard or 6S JST-XH Parallel Balance Cable that I currently use with my iCharger?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Safe Parallel Adapter has polyfuses. So, in unfortunate situation, when you connect balance tabs first for one discharged pack and another charged one, it may protect from melting balance tabs if too much Amps starts to travel from one pack to another through balance tabs.

Other then that - no difference.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info, yeah I have burned up a couple of balance connectors and a paraboard from connecting the balance connectors to the parallel cable and while the series connector is still connected...doh!! Done that a couple of times already...

The safe adapters will prevent melting the balance wiring if you plug in a fully charged battery and an empty battery to only the balance wires. You should always plug in the discharge wires before the balance wires to even out the packs, this avoids high current in the balance wires. They could also prevent problems if you were to plug in a battery with a dead or shorted cell along with a good battery.

If you are careful, the adapters you have will work fine as long as you are aware of the state of your batteries before you plug them in.

I have my 2X6S picks in a stickpack configuration so connecting so the batteries I am connecting are always at the same state of charge, but I can see how that would be a problem if you were parallel charging single 6S packs. My issue was forgetting to disconnect the series connector from my 12S split pack before connecting the balance connectors...with the safe adapters I assume I would have just blown the poly fuse instead of toasting the connector, balance board and balance wires.
