Really wanted to see Carl get his first (local boy, and just plain
good guy), but have to say Tony really earned this race tonight, bad
luck from the start.

Great end to this chase!

I have to agree, Carl would have been a class act for a champion. But Tony sure earned it, just plain outdriving Carl when it counted the most.

I thought Carl displayed a high degree of good sportsmanship by being the first to go out and congratulate Tony.

absolutely. Never been a huge fan of his, but he just earned my respect for his actions after the race.

Great race "Smoke" called this one from the beginning of the chase. Carl just couldn't overcome the pressure.

Stewart wins race
He didn't win the race, his pit crew, crew chief, and the various ones who tuned his engine, tuned the suspension, made tire choices for him. He just drives. Lets see how that goes: Left turn, straight, left turn, straight, left turn, straight, left turn, straight...etc. You get the idea I hope.
.
Crap, bring back real stock car racing, this racing is round and round they go, oopps, some one screwed up and now its a smoking skidding mess.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I sense your sarcasm....but you apperently did not watch the race,if you did, then that comment is just idiotic, although I aggree it is a team effort, tony drove his a$$ off and deserved the win. Cars with the best tuner, pit crew and so on without a driver won't win a thing.

Smoke drove his A$$ off. This was a team effort for sure but Smoke sure did his job while Edwards just did not rise to the occasion. It was his to lose and that's what he did.

Great for Tony but too bad for his crew chief. He was told in October he won't be back next year. If I was him and they ask him back, they will have to sweeten the pot ALOT!

It wasn't Kurt, Kyle, Jimmy

Anyone who says that Smoke didn't earn it is nuts just the pass he made from 9th to 5th was a hell of a job to pull off, Passed four s cars at once!

I was pulling for Carl but I can live with smoke winning the chase he did earn it. All in all it was a race down to the last lap.

I didn't think anyone watched (or cared about) NASCAR Sprint Cup anymore.

5 hours for one event - every week.
Sometimes it is on Sat, sometimes Sunday. Maybe even a Monday if it rains.
The start time seems to change every week. Could be 10am, maybe 1pm - sometimes 5pm.
It is on 3 different networks (Fox, ESPN & TNT).

Then to top it off, NASCAR forces everyone to use the same car - Dodge, Ford, Chevy or Toyota - they have to fit a template. If one car has an advantage over the others, they handicap the faster car - to keep it "competitive".
Same for the engines

I gave up.

once they went to the COT, I basically quit watching. I know a lot of people that did the same. I say take off the restrictor plates, let the guys do some innovatin' (cheatin'...) and see where it goes.
Hell, they were faster and less safe 20 years ago.

Make like it used to be - and more like current Formula-1

Publish strict technical specs and let the manufactures go head-to-head.

And, make sure it is broadcast at the same time on the same channel every race - no matter where in the world it is being held.

And race in the rain - no more pansy-ass "Ooo - I can't race because I might get my hair wet". Slap some windshield wipers and rain tires on those puppies and go racing!
If F1 can race in a monsoon with 1" of standing water in the turns, then why can't a full size sedan?

From the Frontstretch Newsletter. This sums it up.
Mike

“I could not be more proud. We had the problem early and had the hole in the nose, everybody on this Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevy team did a great job of getting it back going, then we had the contact with [David] Reutimann and had to come back in and fix it again. I told them 'Man, it is really going to make these guys mad when we come back twice and still kick their butt.'” - Tony Stewart, 2011 Sprint Cup champion and Homestead race winner

No matter how great the old days were, and no matter how much NASCAR racing has changed over the years, there is no doubt whatsoever that the 400-mile performance Tony Stewart delivered this Sunday will go down as one of the most impressive performances ever seen in motorsports. With the championship on the line, the driver known as Smoke didn't just win the championship; he went out and took it. Passing car after car with utter ferocity and never once losing his cool even as his pit crew struggled, the car got damaged and his crew chief took a bold gamble on fuel, Stewart's greatest weakness... his temper... never flared. Instead, the talent that has made the man a champion in everything he's ever driven allowed him to win his fifth Chase race, and in doing so snag the title despite taking a heavyweight's best shot. Carl Edwards was on his "A" game with a great car... and that was no match for Tony Stewart. Decades from now, old and new school fans alike will still be viewing this race in awe. Race fans witnessed history this Sunday in South Florida.
