I just got a new Futaba 8FG and I cant use throttle trim to adjust my idle speed with the throttle hold switch on. I normally use a Futaba 10CG and like all my previous Futana radios, 9C 9Z I was able to make a trim adjustment. This is driving me crazy. Any ideas? I have the latest software update installed.

One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

You adjust the idle speed in the hold menu by adjusting the percentage. Mine is around 18% or 20%.

I don't know why yours is different, but I am able to adjust trim in all flight modes, even hold

(edit- nope!)

I can adjust the trim all I want, but the idle speed never changes when in hold.

Hold in (most) all heli radios over rides any other throttle stick and trim inputs.

Dood, throttle trim is active in hold? You sure?

You sure?
No, I thought it did-- it does not.
I noticed the trim tab works and it is moving according to the display, however, if you go into the servo monitor mode you can clearly see that throttle trim does not work.

I never monkey with my throttle trim so I hadn't given it much thought.

The bar will move and trim will affect the idle after you come out of hold, but in hold, if the priority is set right, nothing will affect it.

I find this to be a PITA, since I switched from my 10C. When I start my heli on a cold day (with Hold on, of course), I usually want to put the trim up a few clicks to get the engine running, then have to turn it back down after start to go back to a normal idle speed. I have to turn T/H off to do that with the 8fg, and I don't like that from a safety perspective.

Is there no way around this? Setting the T3 to "combinaton" mode is supposed to allow trim to work in all flight conditions, according to the manual.

Thanks,
Todd

Here's a solution---
Screw throttle hold. Instead, enable Flight Mode 3, set the priority so it overrides all others. (as if it were throttle hold)
Assign flight mode 3 switch to the switch of your choosing, in other words, where you would want T-hold to be.
Establish a FLAT throttle curve to simulate hold position.
Adjust trim until your heart's content.

Ok, but wouldn't you have to open up a menu everytime you wanted to adjust it, or could you tie it to the trim tab?

I think that the trim reverts back to it's saved position, but I'll have to check. Actully it doesn't matter, to do what I want it to do, I would want to change the trim again after starting, so I'd have to turn T/H off again, then on again, etc, etc.

I like dood's idea of using Idle Up 3 (I only use 1 & 2 now) to create a "fake" throttle hold that would/should have full access to the trim adjustments, and give it top priority. I'll have to test that.

Thanks,
Todd

I am doing like this but there is a danger. In fact you will have one switch to put the condition throttle flat (condition start for me with a ramp to 15% to allow to accelerate just before the clutch stick) and another switch to go from normal condition to idle up. In case this second switch is moved while the first one is on the start condition nothing happens. But once you will move the first switch the take off you will directly go to the idle up condition witch is bad (I did it ....)
Because I only fly nitro I have found a solution to this issue. In case I move the autorot switch or the idle up switch when I am in the start condition my engine stop. Then I can not do the mistake until the end :-) which could be painful.
