PM MinAirUSA and I'm sure they will hook you up with the replacement parts......looks like a bad pinion made it through to a kit. :-(

My pinion had similar markings. Took a file to it and some fine wet/dry sand paper. Almost looks like the pinion is stamped or extruded. If it is machined the tooling needs a good sharpening.

How could you possibly extrude or stamp a pinion out of hardened steel?

Maybe their bit was just a little dull?

Could be surface hardened after the fact. Gears are typically finish ground but my pinion and the one in the picture do not reflect a properly ground gear.

It looks like the damage was done after the teeth were manufactured, which is easier to do than you think. MA has to see when can be done to prevent this. I would classify as good old fashion nicks and dings.
As someone else mentioned, a small fine flat file and some light elbow grease should take care of it.

Is that split down the middle of the pinion a camera illusion?

I feel bipolar after this thread.

"The trials and tribulations of the whip."

Im not sure how to feel, and am following the whiplash threads carefully.

There are no less than 19 helis in the 700 electric class that are already on the market or soon to be released. Competition is tougher than ever in this industry. This has positive effects as it drives innovation, but it also has negative effects as the companies are forced to rush things. What I've learnt in my 2.5 years in the hobby is to wait and not be an early adopter of anything. All bugs will eventually be corrected and the Whiplash will be (already is, to be fair) a very good quality heli.
