Days gone by. It was an airshow. No, we don't have any dangerous airshows in the US...nothing where high performance aircraft can go out of control and dive into the crowd...

ooh, wait. We DO still have those.

I wish I could find the video clip of "The Simpsons" where the news heli pilot (drunk) flys into a crowd at a baseball game. That is the vision I have with this demo.

though it is really cool to see and I would have really enjoyed seeing it I don't think I'd be comfortable with my kids there.

that's it! no wonder I couldn't find it - not The Simpsons. It' had to be drawn by someone that fly's R/C don't you think. The flips, tail swinging with the boat attached. Slow-mo audience mowing

I'm sorta on the fence with the show in the OP.

I would go and love it.
I wouldn't drag my minor children there and put them in danger.

As long as every person there is an adult and came to see the show,I'm all for it.

I would venture a guess that American air shows and air races are responsible for more deaths than that helicopter show will ever produce.

We've had one community smashed twice by the same show in just a few years. Nobody in that community bought their home to be close to an air race.

The helicopter in the OP would would only endanger the people at the show. It would never lose control and fly 25 miles out of the stadium and tear down a neighborhood.
Sure it can crash anywhere but it isn't performing recklessly over homes like good old American air racers.

By the way...I'm not saying stop air shows.
I only mean that the helicopter show is no more or less dangerous than any show.

The risk management is very high, but I have to admit that was some seriously impressive flying skills.

That was the Reno air race and the evidence points to a mechanical failure of the Mustang P-51. There is video part coming off the horizontal stab (trim tab) before the roll.

Tragic as that is I think that is the exception since it's a very hig speed venue with the grand stands relativly close to the flight line. The main airshow here at Offutt AFB has the audience further away from the fligt line and it feels safer. Same with Oshkosh. I saw a pretty bad accident at Oshkosh '99 nobody outside of the aircraft got hurt.

Wow, I haven't see that video clip before. I'm sure the pilot had a fun time flying on the deck... doing funnels! And I can only imagine how outraged some model pilots were with every second of inherent danger with 3 helicopters surrounded by a stadium of people. That is kinda "wow" to me.

It was fun to watch on the computer, but no way would I go to that show. My little model heli wrecks has thrown stuff past me, can't imagine a full scale going in and parts being thrown in the stands. My rc helis give me plenty of adrenaline.
