Switch to a LiPO or LiFe battery, run a regulator for the system. There are many on the market, from inexpensive to expensive. I use one in a nitro model that has one output for the RX that can be adjusted to any voltage up to incoming and a separate output for the tail that is set at 5.0.
With a 3200mAh LiPo battery, I can get about 100 minutes of flight time before I have to charge. That's ten 10 minute flights (or two normal flying days for me).
I use a similar setup with a Duralite regulator that is preset at 5.3v. This is on an electric model (no BEC for me) and I use a 1600mAh pack and I get 6 five minute flights before having to recharge.
In both cases, I always use the 80% rule or better for monitoring my LiPo's. I use a battery checker that I can put a load on the battery, typically 1amp, and when the voltage with load is at 7.25 I stop and change batteries/recharge.
