Which way is better to go. Govern the speed with the speed control or use an external governor such as the VBar or CGY750?

Also does someone have a good write that describes the relationships between volts, watts, amps, kv, gear ration and such.

If you are going to use the CGY-750 for governor with an electric model, you will find that you will need at least 5 magnets to get good results. Dr. Ben and a few others have done testing with this and it has to do with response time that makes the need of multi-magnest to accomplish this. Also, as you would expect, the magnets need to be very precisely spaced in order to accomplish good results.
So, pretty much, the governor in the ESC(not familiar with V-Bar governor) is the way to go.

Watts is volts x amps. Kv means rpm per volt. Gear ratio is worked out by dividing main gear teeth by pinion teeth so for example 150T main and 15T pinion is 10 (1:10). So motor rpm / gear ratio = head speed. Use packs nominal voltage not full charged voltage when working out HS (3.7v per cell). This will give you a rough HS at 0 pitch and 100% throttle with a fresh pack.
