Anybody know how to setup the 8fg to be able to switch between rate and avcs mode. I would like to assign it to a switch if possible.
Thanks in advance.

Open the MODEL MENU, select CONDITION. Take note of the switch selection for the various flight modes.

Press RTN when CONDITION is highlighted, you'll be back in the MODEL MENU.

Press S1 to go to the second page / screen of the MODEL MENU, select GYRO.

Scroll untill you can select RUD, press RTN, ensure COND is selected for RUD, AIL, ELE.

Now scroll to AVCS or NORM between the various flight modes.

This will enable you alternate between AVCS and rate mode between the various flight modes.

Let me know if you were successful.

Thanks I finally had time to try your setting. It lets me change with flight modes but I want to be able to switch between normal avcs mode in any flight mode. Is that possible?

To my knowledge that is not possible because the 8FG does not support multiple gyro rates per flight condition as is the case with radios like the 12Z and 14MZ. If anyone knows otherwise, please correct me.

Each condition can have one set of gyro gains.
But you can select between Condition and Switch in the gyro menu.

http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/8fgs-2_4ghz-manual.pdf

8FGS manual page 127.
Set GYRO MODE to SWITCH.
Select a gyro (rudder/aileron/elevator)
Select a switch.
Setup switch (up/middle/down) for #1 and #2 gain.
Enter AVCS gains under #1.
Enter Rate gains under #2.

repeat for the other two gains.
you can setup one switch for all three gains or one switch for each gain.
I have rudder on one switch (to center before takeoff) and the ailero/elevator on another because you don't need to switch cyclics once setup.

NOTE I don't have my 8FG with me at work. I will doublecheck when I get home but this is how I remember.

If you are using Switch E for your idle ups and only using two idle ups...set switch F to idle up 3. We will use this as the Normal/AVCS switch (it will show up as idle up 3). Go to the gyro menu and with the switch in the off positon the Normal condition it should on screen (as long as your main idle up switch is not turned on). Decide which direction you what to be normal without AVCS (normal) and which direction you want to be Normal/Normal set the NORM/AVCS position to match what you want.

Note, Idle up 3 will override your other idle up conditions, so be sure to only pull it on when you want to use it.

Clear as mud?

Wouldnt it just be easier to use a 11 channel JR radio and the adapter?

I put idle 3 on SG. Keep a standard pitch curve and flat 0 for thr curve. I then set gyro's to normal. Now when in idle 3 I can flip th a couple time a set the center. Thanks everyone.

So, is this the only way (with a idleup3 using non-AVCS) to get different HH gains for each flight conditions, and still have a switch for AVCS/normal on a seperate switch?

Bobby Watts did a two part video on You Tube on how to set up the 750 in the 8FG...that's how I've got mine set up. I believe it lets you toggle between HH and rate mode for each axis separately and in any flight condition.

thats how i have it setup, but that will not allow you to run diffenrent AVCS gains for each flightmode(idleups)

I don't have my radio here, so I can't look...but can't the gains be changed by condition In the gyro menu and still have the ability to kick each individually to rate mode with the assigned switch?

mmhh.... i have to check it tommorow...
but i think you have to assign a switch for the gains, and you cant have one switch for HH (your idleup switch) and another for the normale rate mode....

I could swear mine each on a three position switch, set on, on, and off with off being rate mode. I think both on positions have their own individual gain. I might be wrong...I won't be able to check until my radio arrives from the states in September. PM Jwatson, he helped me set mine up and is a guru with the Futaba radios, you've got me wondering now. I originally wanted the ability to trim the gyros individually, but if I cent changed gains between flight modes that's not gonna work...

I found a solution with out idleup3
I wanted to have AVCS in Normel-Idle1-idle2(Switch SE) and Hold (Swicth SG)
I wanted switch SF be switch between AVCS and Normal mode for the Tail
I wanted Switch SG be switch between AVCS and Normal mode for the cyclic gyro 2+3

Here' what i did:

Gyro Menu
In the gyro menu i choose Condition selected

I then made 3 P-mixers:

Pmix #1:
P-mix on/off with switch SF
Position 1 (Upper) Pmix 1 OFF
Position 2 (Lower) Pmix 1 ON

P-mix #1 Page 1/2:
Linear mode
Upper mixing rate to -50%
I adjust the Offset rate Y until the display in the CGY shows 50% Normalegain (the same as Upper Mixing rate),i ended up at +81%.

P-mix #1 Page 2/2:
SF->Gyro
Master SF
Slave Gyro

Pmix #2 + #3:
P-mix on/off with switch SD
Position 1 (Upper) Pmix 2 OFF
Position 2 (Middel) Pmix 2 OFF
Position 32 (Lower) Pmix 2 ON

P-mix #2 Page 1/2:
Linear mode
Upper mixing rate to -50%
I adjust the Offset rate Y until the display in the CGY shows 50% Normalegain (the same as Upper Mixing rate),i ended up at +81%.

P-mix #2 Page 2/2:
SF->Gyro
Master SD
Slave Gyro2

Pmix 3
The same as P-mix 2 but slave is Gyro3

The Upper mixing rate value will then work as the % for normale gain in the CGY
It will however be a couple of 5 off, when chaninge the -50% to ex. -75% (the CGY will then show ex. 77%)

If you know you Normalmode (NON-AVCS) will be arounf 70%, then i would raise the Upper mixering rate from -50% to 70%, and then reajudt the offset rate until the cgy shows 70% Normalmode

In the Gyro menu (8FG) you cant see that is change to NON AVCS, but you can on the CGY display.

If i want to adjust the NON-AVCS % i just adjust the Upper mixing rate

Hope Futaba will change the Gyro menu so it would be possible to make it all in that mene....
