Ok everyone has been stopped by a stranger with a million question's when flying. What's the strangest question you've been ask?

Mine was the other day when a guy asked if I fly for the military. Lol I said I don't think they would let me fly like this....

Funny you say that... I was at the car wash on the way back from the field over the weekend, and I took my 600ESP out of the van before they drove it in to be washed. While I was waiting, one of the guys came up to me, said "nice toy", then asked what kind of "gas" it used. I told him it was electric. He then asked me how many "D batteries" it took.

How come you have so much money in that heli and can only fly it for about 7 minutes? I get that one a lot!

Not so strange, but makes you wonder.

"My son has couple of those." You know that she is referring to TrU kind (AirHogs or PiccoZ).

Had a young teen girl asking how high and junk, then asked if the heli was real. She stumped me.

I have learned if you move the sticks the right way you wont crash.

Someone asked me how they could learn. I started explaining with the usual answers. He stopped me. He said, what if someone had an unlimited budget, could they just crash and grab another one until they figured it out?

I wonder what budget he had in mind

I had this one. "wow, how many bugs a year you rekon you kill with that thing?" I actually laughed out loud.

"Why does it fly?"

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.

Maiden hovering a Trex 550 in a parking lot at 10:00pm, a stranger scared the crap out of me walking up from behind. I almost dropped the Tx.

He says, "I was just gonna ask why you fly'n at night?"

My response, "I shouldn't be!"

Lesson learned and I became the grasshopper

not really strange, just humbling.

i was at my club field flying last weekend. I was the last one there as the sun was setting and was just tossing around my 450 before i packed up. out of the corner of my eye I saw a group of 3 kids on bikes ride up from the side street.

I puffed my chest a little and really started 'laying it down'. I landed and actually heard some applause from behind. I grinned a bit without anyone seeing.

So, I walk up ready to answer the battery of questions and the first kid asks "Can you do any tricks"

I said "I ca...wait, what??!"

I didn't get my head out of that fog before the other asked what kind of gas it ran.

I blinked for a second and twitched my head...they must have thought I had a bug in my eye.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Just last week a woman asked me if my Furion 6 was based on the Sikorsky Blackhawk. I guess to people who don't fly all helis look the same.

Earlier this summer I was practicing my hovering, at that time that was about all I could do, and a lady that I later learned had a few too many, said "boy that thing is really hard to land ain't it". I started to laugh and said " I'm not trying to land it, I'm trying to fly it". I guess she wasn't sure what I was trying to do.

"so you just hit buttons, fidget sticks and move switches and it does those twirly moves?" That was a classic I had a fellow ask.

Usually if someone is either annoying or just continuing with the same ol questions and comments, I tell em that walmart has the whole shabang for around 100 bucks, they usually bolt straight there gives me time to pack up and get away. I no longer live where I have to fly close to people but when I did, that is how I got rid of them, lol!!

Another one continually that I find not just strange but outright silly is they say "is that gas powered?" while clearly there is NO smoke, NO engine noise etc, I say no it is electric you didn't see any smoke right? You'd think they would go oh yea, or feel embarressed but somehow these strange people don't even feel dumb or anything for asking.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

It is only apparent to those who are in the hobby.
