450 is the only thing I dont run a seperate bec on. Anything larger its worth $35 for a castle pro bec or $100 on my 700e for the Western Robotics unit. Doesnt matter what esc I have.

I WILL NOT run BEC on anything over 3S. A separate RX battery and regulator (or not if using HV servos) for me.

For me, the brand really does matter. I am comfortable running the Kontronik Power Jive BEC using master and slave leads, although still run a buffer pack (400mAh 4 cell Nimh) as recommended by Kontronik.

I believe Kontronics is the exception as their built in BECs actually work.

I don't have anything under 600's, but BEC on everything, never a problem. Just make sure the BEC you pick out has enough amps to service your flight gear...never starve your flight gear, it can very easily crash you.
