haha nice one

Just came up with an extremely easy way to get the CG dead on for those of you having issues. I should have something tonight

In the mean time, make sure you have a printer, a 3mm drill bit(1/8" will work just fine), and a drill.

Hi guys,

There are a few of our team pilots that are flying the Whiplash E FBL and having success with the current weight distribution within the model giving a pretty good CG.

It seems like Bobby is working diligently to find a solution for those they may still be having issues or those that choose to run BEC's.

One pilot (not pictured) is running 2 x 6s sticks from TP. This allows for the bottom of the 2 sticks to be placed more forward and hence gives the model a perfect CG from the get go.

Part number: TP5000-6SPP65L 26 x 50 x 310 Long Configuration

Here are a few photos of of electronics layout that seems to be working pretty well for a good overall CG.

With the canopy, the model is pretty darn close and when using the method of holding the heli sideways, tail drop is minimal at best.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to chime in.

FYI with my setup my CG is 100% dead-on (see pic below) using the method many FBL users use to check CG. Tail doesn't drop at all. Just sits there level the entire time I hold the heli. NO mods. Batteries mounted all the way forward. I'll get a better pic when I have a third hand to take the pic.

Setup:
Vbar Fullsize
Futaba 3CH SBus RX
Scorpion 4035-500
Hobbywing 120A HV ESC
Western Robotics Super BEC
Futaba BLS252 Cyclic
Futaba BLS251 Tail
2 x Gen Ace 5300mAH 30C
Mavrikk 105mm Tail Blades INSTALLED when checking balance (see pic)
Mavrikk 690mm FBL Main Blades (not in pic)

Cool... thanks Ron.

Everything is done and I sent it out to a few buddies to test and make sure we have good results. Should be posting something tomorrow for you all.

Why not just drill 3 new holes on each side to lower the middle tray so your pack clear the tail servo?

True but then you defeat purpose of selling feature "high cog". Which can play role in flight characteristics.

I understand but we are only talking about approx. 1/2". Look at the Nitro that has the engine, pipe and fuel lower than we are talking about here.

I hear ya, see what they come up with ..Moving 2-3lbs of Lipo vertically half an inch would make a big diff though, like noticeably.

Pretty cool to have the designer and tester personally get involved and work to get a solution for everyone.

Nice one M.A. and Bobby :-)

Well. 2 oz is better than 4 oz like Tims crappy ionx 2 design when batteries went to 1 p. I wish Chris would have had an input on this design.

Bobby, do you think what ever solution you come up with for existing kits will be incorporated into future production kits? Version 2.0 etc...

I've got the E - FBL Kit today

But I have 2 different set of dampers - a blue one (harder) and a white one (softer).

Which one to use for the FBL-Head?

Regards,
Thomas

Depends on your flying style. The blue is for 3D.

Thx!
So I will use the blue set of dampers - as I will use it for 3D.
Headspeed should be around 2000 Rpm...

My Setup will be:
Pyro 700-52
HeliJive 120

BeastX or VBar - not decided right now..

Blue is for higher headspeed 2150 and up. if your going to run a lower headspeed I would suggest the clear as they are a bit softer and will not give any wobble at the lower headspeed.

I would also suggest running 710 blades on lower headspeed as well as they make the model feel extremely good in the air.

Guys,
I'm curious.... is there enough headroom to mount 1 main pack on the front equip tray, and the other pack in the stock location?
I don't yet have my kit so i cant look for myself.

It would be tight. I dont have mine with me to check though.

I don't think there is enough frame left below the current holes to allow another set drilled down far enough to clear the servo.

I guess if you slide it forward and down there would be.
