Hi,
Looking to upgrade my stock align 70A esc/bec, does anyone think the Jive 80 LV 5A/15A BEC is good enough for a 550E 3GX?

Should be more than enough. Having the built in BEC (capable of 15 amps) is an added bonus.

Thats what I thought but I'm trying to find out where the two power outputs from the Jive would go on the 3GX as it only has one Bat in socket????

80+ would be way more than enough. Its not called the 80+ for nothing.

There is also the Koby 90.

No, it would not actually.
(600mm blades with 6s will overcurrent a 80+)
Koby BEC is not up for full size servos.

Well for £30 difference I'm happy I've gone for the 100+, gives me a bit more headroom, there are some test results on the freak that show the 550E 3GX constant BEC pull of 5A-6A and peaking at 9A-10A nearly 10 times in one flight so I think that it's only a matter of time before everyones stock Align 3A/5A internal BEC gives up the ghost and takes half of your heli with it.

Who puts 600mm blades on a 550 and keeps the same gearing?!

The Koby BEC CAN handle full size servos because my friend and I have this ESC on our 550's with the Align servos which are very power hungry.

Not talking about same gearing, Even on proper 600 gearing.
(actually, really pusing it you can overamp the 100A jive on a 550 with stock blades too, or at least VERY close)
So, 100A version for that is recommended.

And Koby Bec is not recommended for full size servos, you have been lucky, i suggest you get a buffer pack.

I do not know the spec on the Align BEC,

The Koby BEC is a 3A cont/10A peak BEC,
Its not built for full sized servos.

It has been tested that 4 x 8717 in servos in a flybarless solution can draw (not under hard load, just from starting) 66A peaks.
(short transient peaks but that's still a LOT)

Align BEC is 3A cont. 5A burst.

Im not running 4x 8717's and im not FBL so im fine. Any BEC can fail, its all good when tested on the ground (my method of testing a BEC put far more strain on it than would occur in flight), so I have nothing to be worried about but thanks for your concern.

If your worried about high amp spikes you can just buy on of those caps that Spektrum sell that just plugs into a spare RX channel.

Align servos is equally powerhungry as 8717.

Anyway, it's the offical recommendation, and I had to deal with those that failed already, if you burn it its up to you.
(manually clearly states to use buffer pack)

Spektrum Caps wont cut it by far.

Kontronik's recommendation? They also recommend a 100+LV in a Logo 400/Trex 500! Me thinks they just want you to buy a more expensive ESC!

You have to also take into account that the OP probably does not fly like Bert Kammerer, I could be wrong however?
