what people are doing to these engines today,,, is,,

they Bore-out the Block-relief's for the Cylinders Juggs (and on the Heads too) and mount larger I.D. VW Cylinder Jugs to increase the cid,,
then they Mill off the stock Intake Manifolds that have a I.D. not much bigger than your finger, then they make their own Intake Manifolds that are much larger than stock and then Port the Heads to match these new Intake Manifolds,,

wan bam add a Turbo or 2,,

now you got around 400hp in your Sand Rail

A little to the right and down!

Sure does look like a Corvair engine with the cooling shroud removed. The stacks on the six carbs threw me too. I can't imagine keeping them all in sync.

I had a 64, 4 speed Spyder convertible (sure wish I had it now) and had a hard enough time keeping that thing running in top shape. With the turbo on it, I used to consistently blow away small block 8's and had a blast doing it. Only problem was keeping the copper seals between the jugs and the heads. I can't tell you how many times I blew them out. Maybe just a little too much boost

If it ain't broke, go fly some more!

this brings back memories. As a kid I used to drool over a catalog from a kit car company called Kelmark in Okemos Michigan, that made kit cars, but what I wanted most from them was a kit that allowed you to mod the frame of a Corvair to accept a small block V8. Those things were so cool.
I googled it, they're not in business anymore, but there's several pages of info on the company.

I've got a buddy that may be looking for a Corvair engine for his Zenith homebuilt. Is it for sale?
