What's the skinny on Align? Good? Bad? Middle of the road ?

I got a new trex 700 pro for $400 with blades etc so I went with it. But WOW!

The Raptor G4 is awesome looking. Considering I got the trex 700 for such a great deal I had to go with it. I also but a raptor 50 to warm back up on.

I just need someone to enlighten me on the Align product line.

Give it to me straight !!
If you had a chance to fly an X50 with a flybar, you will never touch the 700. I recently setup an X50 as a trainer and I could not stop thinking how good this model flies. (precise, maneuverable, light feel)

The rex700 is not bad, the little X50 is just much better and fun to fly.

BTW, those who know the full story, Align offered Alan a full time job with a very lucrative salary, no one else did. Alan hated to leave TT, but he had no significant saying on TTs design (or any at all).
Taking the deal was the best for him, and for Align a true success story. They come a long way from their POS grey 450 V1. Still, I don't consider their best quality product on the same galaxy as of the new Raptor G4.

Well, After building the 700 I have formed an opinion. Again, I have flown the Raptor 50, Raptor 90, and Vibe 90 about 6 years ago so I have a pretty good foundation to compare to as well.

I believe the Align 700 is somewhat of a knock off of the Raptor design. With that said, there are only so many ways to engineer a body, head, blade grips, etc so I know some design elements are somewhat the same and there are of course design differences that make the 700 unique in and of itself. But I do "feel" the quality of the Align seems a bit "2nd" rate to Raptor and NO comparison to the Raptor G4. But then again, the 700 costs $400 and the G4 costs $1,000.

The main frames are a bit thin and not sure how much the low weight to strength/torque will play out during some hardcore 3d. I am a pretty good pilot with some 3D skills but not someone who will totally "ring out" a heli; so the 700 may be a heli that is far better than I! Atleast that is what I am hoping so I don't feel the need to by a G4.

I will decide after flying the 700 for the summer to see if the "value" price was worth it in the long run. I am optimistic that the kit will hold up but will report back in.

Any comments on things to "watch out for" in terms of wear/replacement on the 700 would be appreciated. I'd like to be one step ahead the game whenever possible. :-)

Thanks again people!

Bill.

wear/replacement on the 700
bearings throw the align ones in the bin they are rubbish
have the odd spare main gear to hand
keep a good eye on the ball links some wear very quickly others don't
get a quick uk clutch for when the original fails
keep an eye on the swash bottom bearing shield they are known to have fallen off (it may have been cured on the later kits)
fit a quick uk tail hub assemble onto it as you'll wish you had when it throws the align grips off

long term i don't know as i sold mine after 6 months
it was too expensive to keep in the air in failed parts

I am wondering if parts will be around for a while on the Raptor 90 3d??? I am not sure I want to spend a grand on a G4. Should I worry about buying a Raptor 90 3D and not have spare parts for the next year or so???

By the way, I am not get the "warm and fuzzy" as I put the Align 700 together.
