because they are not very good heads (underslung central teetering) everyone's moved over to the SSZ-IV/V heads.

micromanaging is not what most people want to do, it's all floating axle design these days.

Sorry I am not very clear about it, could you please tell me the difference between the underslung teetering and the floating head?

Many thanks

Sean

look at the SSZ-II and SSZ-III heads along with the SSR-V, VI, VII and VIII, you see that they teeter at the centre below the head spindle, that's where that rubber o ring sits.

floating axle heads are all the other heads you are seeing on the TRexes, Synergys, JRs, etc. . etc. . . where the spindle sits on o rings through the head hub.

Sean,

The SSZ-III head holds position very well BUT jumps like a kangaroo to wind gust. Really hard to fight it.
The SSZ-IV and V are just much better in every respect.
Like SKS said, all the floating spindle heads tent to do better at managing the wind. I even knoked out the center pivot of my SSZ-IV to make it trully floaing and it hovers even better.

I did not have access to a machininst when I did my own conversion using the Scorpion mount, so I asked Ruedi to make me a special shorter adapter. He did:

The adapter on the left is the stock one that comes with the TRF kit, the one on the right is the special one he made for the Scorpion mount; It is 13mm long. The adapter allows you to use all the stock Freya pinions+gear combinations.

To SKS,

Now I see, thank you very much, but speaking of flying performance, is there any big difference between these two types of head?

You have mentioned the micro control, does it mean teetering head needs more micro control to make it stable?

Many thanks

To Santiago,

Thanks mate for the information of the short adapter.

My LeptonEX and Sceadu Evo all are floating head, but I still feel the head does not handle wind very well, I have tried to adjust Lepton's head by different pitch arms to change the delta effect, it helps in no-wind condition but not in the wind, I think that's my finger, still not good enough

to put in bluntly, and there are those far better qualified than I on this particular matter, you just work more with these older heads, which is why all the pilots have moved over to the classic floating axle design.

you won't notice this if you, like me, have been flying these temperamental heads to begin with and do the switch over and the difference is quite large. I've flown the SSR-VII and VI and it's a lot of work to hold in hover when the wind blows, my Sylphide head just sits without require as much work, a very pleasant and satisfying experience to say the least.
