As a lot of you may have heard a member of the Heli community was hit with a 600se logo last Thursday. This was a freak accident that happened at a park. Three guys out having a good time flying after work like they always do. One of the piolits was flying when he lost orientation and got behind him and by the time he went to bury the heli into the ground it was already to late. My father is the one that took majority of the blow to the head and hand. The other gentleman had a gash on his forarm and was lucky his Aggie ring was there to take some of the blow. Jack Marino was lucky in a sense that he is still alive and if it wasn't for his hard head he may not be with us today. He suffered a compound fracture in his hand that was repaired with screws and a plate. He had numerous stitchs in his face from the top left of his forehead down to the right cheek bone. He still cannot see out of his right eye do to a blood clot in front of his eye. The doctors feel that it's nothing that they can't fix. He had bleeding in the brain momentarily and bursing of the frontal lobe. He was in ICU for 3 days and was on a breathing tube for 2 of those days. He now is in rehabilation and doctors feel that he will make a full recovery. It may take up to 4 to 6 months till he is 100% but knowing my dad and how much he loves to fly I wouldn't be surprised if he's flying by thanksgiving. If you had seen what I saw in the emergency room and to look at him today you would never believe it was the same man. I'll give you a little prespective on how bad it was, the EMS person that was working on him did not even recognize him until they were in the ambulance and the EMS asked my father his name and when he said Jack Marino the EMS driver said out loud that's my cousin.

Things happen so fast sometimes and everyone that flys helis knows you have milaseconds to make a decision or your in the ground. I never really understood that until I started to fly helis less than a year ago. I know my father will probably never give up flying it's what he loves and I also think its the type of people this hobby attracts is also what he loves and I am glad that he got me involved and introduced me to some great people and loyal RC fliers. It's a close community and proud to be apart of it.

Thanks
William Marino
As my dad always says. "I Loves to Fly"

I hope he makes a speedy, full recovery - and sorry to hear the bad news. If someone reading this decides not to fly too near bystanders or take some unnecessary risk, then perhaps some good can come out of this and maybe save a life down the road a bit.

It sure makes me think even more......and take several more steps back!

I fly alone at my field probably 95% of the time, and having something
like what happened to Jack, where you would NOT be capable of calling
911 yourself................SCARY!
