Hi everyone! New guy here. I'll keep this short. I'm interested in F3C style flying. I've been doing research on different models for the past few days now. I've narrowed it down to two models. I still need help deciding. The Rave ENV or the new t-rex 700F3c V2. I know the ENV is a proven model, but I have experience with align models. I'm ready to just flip a coin

money no object: Sylphide E12 or Caliber E12.

if you want something a little cheaper the new Thunder Tiger G4 electric should do it

that's it as far as I'm concerned. (barring Hirobo doing a proper ELECTRIC F3C machine).

You will not crash often if you properly train F3C.
Buy the best you can afford; Out of the two, CY rave hands down.

If your comfortable with the align, go for it. It hovers well. Starting out the heli isn't gonna make that big a difference anyways.

The Rave ENV by all means.

A good number of top US guys are flying them and gaining more and more setup data. (Curtis, Nick, Cliff and Daniel Hyatt...)

The TRex is a good value, until you throw away the worthless gyro, and the servos for equipment more adequate for FAI. The ENV should stay together longer, tighter than the Rex.

What he ^^^ said, if money was no object.

thank you for the replies. im leaning towards the env. rapid, thats what I was thinking in regards to starting my f3c venture. However, i just feel that the rave env will help me get better faster. i cant explain it, really.

moneypit, can you explain how the ds610 servos arent adequate for FAI?

still, being that the t-rex 700 f3c v2 is fairly new I cant pass judgement on it yet being that it's performance hasn't been "proven". sure, there are some youtube vids floating around but nothing substantial. Maybe I'm thinking far too much into the model and not enough into my actual skills ( or lack thereof). I can fart around in the simulator, but I dont think anything can replace actual flying time. decisions decisions!!!

Helidirect has the flybarred env on sale for a hell of a price. Maybe even get extra 10% today. You should jump on it.

If using other than radix blades you'll prob have to modify the root end as others are longer and catch on the grip bolt, or go to a different type bolt.

Only hard dampers are available, that I know of, requiring mod to get low headspeed without shaking.

Helical gearing is a lot quieter than the standard.

Prob want to make sure your getting the new tail hub also.

1. they dont center as well as zero deadband servos

2. drivetrain wears quickly in comparison to better servos (BLS252, BLS451, or even S9252)

The ds610 are fast enough, and strong enough, but any mechanical backlash in the form of lower res or deadband will make you feel disconected.
Can one fly like that, yes. Will it make much diference in the begining like rapidity said, no, not much.

Having said that, ask anyone that have flown good servos in a FAI setup versus anything like the ds610 and will tell you "night and day"

BLS 451 is a good budget FAI servo. Save $40 each.
