I have a small fleet of 550's. This morning I took #2 out for her maiden. She hovers fine, no surprises in the air.

Unfortunately there is a high pitched squeal. I was not able to record it, but it sounds like a bearing, definitely metallic. It mostly goes away in stable hover, but a small pitch pump and it comes back. Very loud high pitched screeching.

The kit is Align stock, 3Gx v2. Same exact as my other 550. All Align bearings and motor. Has anyone seen (heard) this before?

I can swap parts to chase it down. What is the most likely? I'm thinking motor.

I'd say you're one way bearing is slipping.

My buddy's heli had the same problem, the one way bearing was spinning in the aluminum one-way housing. We removed the bearing, cleaned it all up and locktited the brearing back in but it would keep breaking loose. Eventually he just bought another one-way. We may try cleaning up the housing/bearing and JB Welding it in as a back up.

Were you able to see evidence that it was spinning?

We knew it was the one-way just not what part of it. Originally he thought the bearing was slipping on the shaft, turned out the bearing was spinning in the housing. The 600 uses the same one-way.

OK, so what part of the motor was causing the problem? Was it a bearing or was the motor just wound wrong?

Well if it's a typical outrunner, you just remove the circlip on the motor shaft then press the shaft out of the stator housing.

Squealing is usually bearing. Check your motor bearing, or bearing block. Those are usually the culprit for bad squealing.

Birddawgg, take a look at this post by jsenicka:

I found other posts (on a UK forum) that did not use heat.

Cool, that's different of Align. Kind of similar to the "no collar on the mainshaft" of the newer helis. Instead of the keeper circlip most outrunners have they used a lipped motor shaft.

Almost all outrunners have the grub screws in the bottom of the motor bell to lock the motor shaft as well. Except Actros, they use one screw that comes up from the bottom of the motor.

Instead of using heat, try freezing the new bearings before you install them. He may have used heat to re-liquify the loctite holding them in the stator making the old bearings easier to remove.
