Please excuse the lenghty post but this is a really odd problem. I just recently finished building my first heli, a Trex 500E and I am using brand new Gens-Ace 3300mah batteries in it. I also am using a new Spektrum DX8 Tx, and a AR8000 Rx w/telemetry. When I bought the Tx a couple of months ago, I made sure that it was "post recall" and it has worked flawlessly up to now with my Blade 400. The issue I am experiencing is strange in that it only happens with one particular battery but I just don't understand why or what the relationship could be. What happens is that right after the countdown timer reaches zero and vibrates, the rx loses power and reboots. It only is off for about 2 seconds and then it comes right back but the few times that it has happened it has almost caused me to crash as it occurs close to the ground when I am trying to land. After looking at the telemetry data, I noticed that I was consistently getting about 50 Antenna fades and about 50 or so losses whenever I get a Rx Hold. On the other 3 batteries I fly I usually get about half that many. I have checked the "problem" battery's IR and no cell is higher than 2 milliohms so the battery itself "seems" to be ok. I also am aware that there was an early DX-8 recall for a timer/vibe issue but that issue was supposedly fixed long before this TX was made and if it were a TX issue I would expect it to happen on other batteries as well. So, does anyone have any idea what might be happening here and why it appears linked to a particular battery? Thanks in advance!

One more thing...I also relocated the sat rx to the boom for a clearer "view" and the aerials are positioned 90 degrees perpindicular to the AR800 antenna as they are supposed to be. They are both located on oppisite ends from the ESC and other high voltage sources of RF interference but none of this had any effect.

Is the battery one where one of the individual cells discharges way before the rest in the pack? Do you know what the pack voltage does as it runs down?

Sorry so late in responding but I did more testing this weekend and I was able to recreate the issue using other batteries so it definitely is the TX. I also flew another heli and on that one, the issue would occur every single time the vibe alarm would go off. I shipped it back to Horizon this morning. Thanks!

Pardon my ignorance - but I'll reply anyway ;-)

Are you using a dedicated regulator or the ESC's internal BEC to power the radio?

If you are using the external regulator - are you powering it from the main battery that feeds the ESC?

What brand / model of external regulator are you using. The Castle Creations BEC Pro 20 v2 has problems (just in case you are using that one). I almost lost my Raptor 90 nitro due to a BEC Pro 20 v2 failure that caused my RX to reboot.

If at all possible, can you use a dedicated regulator / dedicated RX pack?

It could be a coincidence that the timer is ringing at the same time. It could be a low battery voltage / regulator issue that causes it.

Did you try running the test with the exact same setup except the vib/alarm turned off? It does sound like there is a problem inside the DX8 that is showing up when being buzzed, like a loose connection. Glad your new 500 didn't get stuffed figuring that out. I've never had it happen to my DX8's but I've flown a bit high when I know the timer is going to buzz (10 second beep count down for the warning). Hope Horizon can offer a clear reason as to why this happened. If they do let us know so those of us with DX8's can know what happened - thanks!

Thanks guys. I am using the included "new" Align 70A esc/bec and NOT using a separate BEC. I had to add a Castle 10A BEC to my Blade 400 after I upgraded the servos, but on the 500, still using the stock setup. When I spoke with Horizon again this morning, they seemed surprised that I was having the issue since my particular PID was not included in any of the prior recalls, however, there really isn't much they could say as it happens every single time on my 400. I should also add that on my last test with the 400, I landed after the glitch and as the rotor was spooling down, the TX sent a full forward cyclic command that almost caused a dynamic rollover! I never experienced that little "bonus" feature on my 500, thank goodness, and after more research, it appears the random cyclic commands only occur when bound to a DMS2 rx such as the 6100e I am currently using in the 400. To their credit though, I have to say that Horizon fully stood behind their product, and within an hour they had sent me a UPS prepaid return label and said they would have it repaired or replaced and back in my hands just as soon as they could. They said the current turnaround time is running about 12 days. I'm pretty dissapointed that after doing so much research before I bought it that I still ended up getting a bad one but as long as it comes back fixed I'll be happy.
