I have an older 6S - 5000MAH that I use in my Logo 5003D.
Its still charging fine and performing well, but the pack seems slightly swelled - like here is some air pressure on the top/bottom of the pack.

Its a Kong Power pack and can't remember if that is just the way the packaging is or if its puffed. Would it still charge and perform if puffed and what exactly occurs when you have a puffed pack?

Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Jeff

most packs will still perform after they start to puff, just watch it. when it starts to get too hot after a flight, or the puffing gets really bad you should stop using it.

Number of reasons could be the cause:

Bad Cell
Over-charge
Dis-charge while flying
Crash
Old
and many, many more.

When in doubt, throw it out.

Good read. Thank you. With getting close to 200 flights on these used packs, this explains alot. I upgraded to a Scorpion motor and that was when the puffing started. I will be getting a higher C battery when I purchase new ones.

Friends don't encourage friends to fly helis! It can cause part shortages.

So will a puffed pack spontaneously burst into flame at some point?

I have 2 packs that are PUFFED.
They fly just as good as my newer packs. No problems, not high IR.
Seem to discharge at the same rate as my newer packs.

So will they be dangerous if they are HOT after flying or charging?

Otherwise I think I will fly them tell they loose power.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

Don't know about the others here, but I wouldn't call those packs 'puffed'.
