After a lot of thought I decided to go with the 700 for the turbine conversion because parts are easily sourced here in NZ and i already have a 700nitro so I know the heli well. I also decided to buy Garys conversion kit to make it even easier, and it looks very nice.

So just thought I'd share some pics as the build progresses,

For those who are interested here are some more build pics.
I'm enjoying the build it's definitely more involved than throwing a nitro engine in there, just need to take your time and it's all good. Definitely need the dremal for cutting and grinding a few parts to fit nice.
So with engine install complete it's pretty plain sailing from here to finish the build, but then the electronics and the plumbing start, that maybe more of a challenge. Just ordered a new canopy, this is going to look awesome.

good to see another Wren in the air..

That is interesting, as this turbine is supposed to fit on the normal 90 sized engine mounts, what modifications did you have to do, you mentioned dremmeling etc,

What size blades are you going to use and what type of flying do you do ?

Look forward to reading of your build.

Well yes it fits in the 90 engine mount fine but then you have to make it fit inside the heli frames as it's to wide. just needed to cut the frames make some spaces and cut and trim the air deflector, drill a few holes in the right places. I am using Gary's conversion kit which is great definitely simplifies it a lot and as a bonus will look nice and tidy when finished, but you still have to do some cutting and fitting and lineing up which is no trouble and makes it a little more challenging which is great.
Just bought the KDE full tail upgrade, Bit pricey but looks real nice.

Here are a few more build pics. I like the KDE tail upgrade feels smooth and solid.

Just started on the turbine accessories, I've just stuck them on temporary. Let me know if I should fit something in a better place.

I can almost smell the Kero it's getting close.

One suggestion, put that filter between the fuel pump and festo y connector so you catch the very fine metal pieces that come from the fuel pump gears as they wear. Those very small pieces will lodge in the valves in the soleniods and cause them to leak/ not seal properly under pressure. You will be feeding fuel in the main fuel rail as well as the injector on startup.

Also I would keep those high pressure fuel lines away from the hot exhaust because if you unfortunately have a hot start those flames could easily burn and melt those fuel lines directly above the exhaust and spray fuel everywhere. I try and keep the high pressure stuff up the front. Just a suggestion.

Nice installation you have there, like the newer smaller Fadec and pump, really neat.

You have done a good job of that, apart from what AussieGuy has recommended there is not much more you could In my opinion.

I really like that tail upgrade, very beefy setup..

Edit...
The only thing i would be careful of, is with the fadec, where you plug in the wires from pump and rx, there is always a gap which allows the plugs to loosen over time and they can pop out, and as you have it stacked vertically it may increase that chance, so i would recommend you either do a physical check each flight, or what i did was inserted a blank plug in the last empty port, this held all the others in tight.

Thanks for the tips guys really appreciate it. That's a great filter tip I would not have thought of that. Are you guys using just the one filter? i guess if you put it before the y connector one should do the job.
Could I put a lipo battery monitor in that spare plug instead of a blank?

Cheers

Looking very cool. Lets know when you fire it up. We'll have to be there for the first flight to see the knees knocking. Cheers Ross

Ok, I've been a bit busy lately but back on the project now and basically it's ready to fire up and see what happens. All I'm waiting for is the canopy which should be here any day and is going to look great, so hopefully it will be in the air for Christmas.

I'm very happy how it has turned out I think it looks clean and tidy and looks like that turbine was made to fit. Cheers

Well It's ready to fire up tomorrow fingers crossed. Pictures don't do it justice it looks fantastic and the canopy is a stunner. All up I'm very happy, the build was pretty smooth and enjoyable. Now I start my next learning curve on running the turbine. Seems strait forward but I'll find out soon enough. I'll let you know how I go.

Very big grin tonight. First start up tonight it was great and yes fire extinguisher close by, I'm just so impressed with this engine it's amazing It is my first turbine but couldn't believe how easy it was. The display screen lets you know whats going on Just love it.

Quick question I purged the air out of the lines but theirs still air in the line going to the underside of the gearbox, is that normal?

Cheers

going to the underside of the gearbox

yes it is normal, once you are up to flight speed that pulsing becomes a constant flow.. it is we never see it when the engine is at idle.

Here is a video i done, you will see at idle it is pulsing fuel through, the higher the RPM, the more goes through, bear in mind this is just idling, and only for a few seconds, it was purely to see the fuel oil mix was actually going to the gear box.

+1! At idle the flow is minimal, but at flying RPM it does the job of lubricating the gearbox.

There is a restrictor in the plumbing that is slowing down this flow, otherwise you may only get a 2 or 3 minute flight time!!

Looks very good, but would not risk the set-up to an align 3 in 1 reg.
This is a heavy model, and with only one power
Lead running to the RX you are just asking for trouble.

Would hate to see all of your good work go down.

I spent a lot of time thinking about that I understand what your saying but decided as I've been using the 2 in 1 since they first came out several years ago now on about 5 or 6 helis and never had any issues, actually at our flying field all of us use the 2 in 1 and no body had any issues so I figured it's proved it self to me. I do like the idea of 2 power leads though but I've never even seen up close another suitable regulator, I tried looking for alternatives but couldn't find anything with a power switch built in like the 2 in 1.
I'm Always keen to look at other options if someone could point me in the right direction. Being a nitro man I'm not up with power systems so much so happy to take any advice.

By the way started the turbine a few times now, just love it. Now it's time to put some blades on and get it in the air. Here goes..
Cheers

Scale Fuselage
It will be even much better and more beautiful if you found a scale fuselage to dress up the pod and boom body
