I have a 550 on 6s using a 100A ESC, Scorpion 4025-1100 motor, a Trex 700 main gear (using the I2 conversion), and I believe a 15T pinion (although not absolutely certain on that). If I extended the boom and blade to 600 size, it would certainly be a pack puffer unless I really dialed back the pitch. With my current 523mm blades, it is pretty hard on the packs already.

Unless you plan to fly really gentle, I'm not sure I would go there.

I have a Hobby King HK600GT, essentially a clone of the Trex 600 (the older one, not the new "Pro" ). It was a combination Birthday/Father's day present from my wife and kids this past summer.

It is equipped as follows:

Align 600 MX motor
15-tooth pinion
Stock 170-tooth main gear
Stock belt-driven tail
Radix 600 MR blades
Align 95 mm CF TR blades.
Futaba S9252 on the swashplate
Futaba 9254 on the tail rotor control
GY520 gyro
CC BEC Pro Regulator
CC ICE 100 ESC
Hobby King Orange 9 channel DSM compatible RX with 2 satellites

The batteries I am using are Turnigy 5000 mah, 6S, 25 C packs

No, it's not a barn burner of a heli. It's not a powerhouse like the 550e I fly, but surprisingly enough, this 600 is a very capable, relaxing heli to fly. It is a pretty decent flyer. Smooth, responsive, and yes, aerobatic. I have my transmitter timer set to sound at 5 minutes, and I usually land at or within 30 seconds of the timer having timed out.

Perhaps sometime next year I may opt to make a few small changes and bump it up to an 8S power source, but for the time being, on 6S it is a delightful heli to fly. I think before I sink more money into a different motor and perhaps gearing to go to an 8S system, however, I'd be more inclined to spend a few dollars and make it go flybarless, I think the efficiency improvement there would be more beneficial than just throwing more power at it.

I see no tendency to bog down or lose head speed during maneuvers, the power system appears to be quite up to the task.

I'm using just a hair under 80% of the battery capacity, the packs are lukewarm when I land, and there have been no signs of puffing or other ill effect.

There's another flyer here who's flown a 600ESP kit on 6S, using a Scorpion 4025-1100 (think that's the right set of numbers, I know it's a -1100), and I believe he, too, is using a 15-tooth pinion. He's got it set up as a dual-purpose heli. Normal flying, or with a quick change kit he's built, a night flyer heli. It's a solid performer, not a real barn-burner, but still a very nice setup and good flying heli.

How does he do that?

The quick change kit is pretty easily accomplished. The tail boom has EL glow wire that just stays on, might not be "pretty" during the day, but doesn't detract from flying.

He's built a small platform out of plexiglass that attaches to the skids, has a couple of small modified LED powered "glow sticks" to illuminate the skids. The platform also holds the EL driver electronics, batteries to run the EL stuff. He's got a canopy with a few strips of LEDs that goes on in place of the "day" canopy.

Change MR blades to night blades, pop on the platform, change out the canopy, and plug in a few plugs, voila, simple, quick-change night heli.

He's an RR member, goes by the screen name RSCOTT. He's here often, but not a wild and crazy poster. Perhaps I can cajole him into a few pics of the setup he's got.

I ran into another flyer at this year's Owatonna Rotary Ring Out. His quick change kit is pretty simple, too. Change out the blades of course, but his night fly canopy is pretty much all self-contained. Has everything needed to make EL glow wire work, including length for the tail boom. Just switches out canopies, takes the long bit of glow wire stuffed inside the canopy, wraps it around the tail boom, and boom, he's ready to go after plugging in a couple of connectors. A few zip ties for a couple of glow stick on the skids, it's done. As I recall, the EL glow driver module is just always present on the airframe.

We have been in a great big circle -- we started out flying 6S 600's. My son and I felt the need for more power -- we did both 12S and 19S -- the 12S was heavy and no fun to fly. The 10S was better - we then giot into custom frames to reduce weight and raise the vertical cg -- much better, My son finaly said "lets do a machine with nothing extra - nothing not required for flight" -- instant sucess -- thus was born the "YARDBIRD". As a 550 it wighghed 5#-4oz, as a 600 it weighs 6#-1oz.

It was like a heli from heaven - responsive, predictable, gobs of vertical opoweretc. Most everyone that flys it says they feel "connected"

We currently run TP65C 3300ma batteries at about 2000 head speed and get 6-7 min flying mild 3D.

We have done both regular gear and "henseleit" style single gear. The single gear is 2 oz lighter and flys better

remember LIGHT is RIGHT
Flybars- what are those?
