I was searching this forum, and the latest servo recommendation is a little out of date.

I am using 3 "Align" DS610 servos for, pitch, roll & collective on my Raptor 90 (converted from a Raptor 60).

I have all the upgrades and metal conversion of bellcranks, arms & push-pull linkages (pitch, roll & collective).
I am using 700mm blades and I still have the flybar - but I have changed to an Align Trex 700n head.
With the Quick UK swashplate, I fly at +/- 10-degrees of collective, but the head has +/- 13-degrees with the current setup.

The other day, someone at the field asked if the DS610 was good enough for the mCCMP collective on the Raptor 90.

I've never had a problem, but I am concerned it might a long term issue of wearing out the servo.

The DS610 is standard for the Trex 700 - but the 700 uses eCCMP and "shares the collective load" equally between all three servos.

The specs on the DS610 seem pretty good: 166 oz/in (12Kg) torque at 6v (I run the regulator @ 6.2v).

From the older posts, some of the recommended servos were:
Hitec HS-5955TG (333 oz/in (24kg) torque @ 6v)
Hitec HS-6985HB (172 oz/in (12kg) torque @ 6v).

The DS610 compares to the HS-6985HB, but the HS-5955TG is double the torque.

Any modern servo recommendations?

I am using a Futaba 9157 on collective on mine. 425 in-oz torque and 0.14 sec/60 deg on 6V.

Futaba BLS252 on cyclic and a Futaba 9256 with GY611 for T/R and gyro. 6 volt system Using a Fromeco Arizona Regulator and a 5,200 mAh Fromeco Relion Lithium-ion pack.

YS91ST/Hatori pipe. Radix 710 blades on main and 105 Radix on tail.

Phaedrus: Do you use the collective "push-pull" linkage upgrade on your Raptor 90?
Or, is you collective link straight from the servo arm to the elevator rocker?

Would that make a difference?

At 425 in/oz torque and 0.14s transit time (at 6v), I would expect the Futaba S9157 to more than meet the requirements of the Raptor 90.

According to the servodatabase.com, there are a few servos in the power / speed range (JR DS8711, Hitec HS-7950TH & Futaba S9157) and they are all priced at $139 USD.

I cannot find any recommendations from TT for a collective servo on the R90.

Do I really need more than 400 in/oz torque to control the collective on the R90?

My local hobby shop has the JR DS8711 (reverse) in stock. He sells these to the mega-plane guys (1/3 or 1/2 scale 3D planes) - they use the reverse servos in pairs (L/R) so they can run one channel for two servos with no added reversing circuit. This would be fine in the heli - just reverse the channel in the radio.

If I am not flying smack-down, radical 3D, do I need a servo with over 400 in/oz torque on my collective?

If I am mainly concerned about burning out the Align DS610 servo with my mild (not wild) flying, would something more powerful than the DS610 (166 in/oz) be required?

No push-pull. Just the stock single link. This servo has plenty of power and works very nicely.

It is likely overkill, but I had it left over from another project and felt this would put it too good use.

I use stock Ace 1015's on both my R90SE's and my R50 Titan SE. They work great.

I bought a JR DS-8711 for my collective.
$139.99 USD + tax at the local hobby shop.

It is a tight squeeze - fractionally wider then the DS610 that I replaced, but all other dimintions are the same as the DS610.
It fits the servo frame without problems.

The servo is labeled "Reverse", but I didn't have to reverse the channel when I installed - I guess Align DS610 and the JR 8711 (reverse) turn in the same direction.

I doubt I'll be in a position to take advantage of the extra collective power, but I'll have peace of mind knowing that I won't stall the collective servo if I needed it in the worst case scenario.

Specs
Type: Digital Ultra Torque
Torque: 347 oz/in @ 4.8V, 403 oz/in @ 6V

Dimensions (WxLxH): 82" x 1.58" x 1.56"

Gears: Metal alloy

I run my CC BEC Pro 20 regulator at 6.2v output with a 3S1P 2200mah 35c LiPo battery.
