has anyone gone ahead and flown the ec135 with the hp5 turbine with the 10mm shaft that comes with it, keep in mind there is no real hotdoggin with a heli this heavy...my common sense is saying just do itnd it will be fine butu im wondering if anyone has done it

Hi,

I have an EC 135 electric with the standard 10 mm main shaft. On the PHT3 (HP5 in US) EC 135 model I have changed to 12 mm as per Vario recommendations.(Einsatz nur bei EC 135 und Hughes mit Mechanik JetCat PHT3 (nur linksdrehend)

ok, i guess i will do the conversion, i just really wanted to reuse my 10mm 4 bladed head, follower, oh well... would anyone like to trade a 12mm vario 4 bladed head for a 12mm vario 4 bladed head ...before i put in the order for the 12mm stuff lol

10mm to 12mm conversion
1hander, if you do decide to go the 12mm route
Buy the OF set up, head and blades, the heavier blades give a far superior gyroscopic effect
SAve a fortune on the head stabilisation
It will depend on whether you want to sit it on the bench, talking and wait for a windless day, or go flying no matter what the wind
Just sold my old 135, OF 4 blade head and and blades to an aquaintance in NZ

i would love to leave it ten but it would seem that im making a grave error, im told the shafy could bend in flight due to the high shaft power and weight of the helic when done...i just wanted to stick with the vario herad because ive got these vario 2 hole blades that Mr. wales worked his magic on. i do like the heads your speaking of..pricey but the craftsmanship is easily seen. i already have a futaba 750 gyro and align 3gx gyro from other heli spares. ive always flown multibladed heads without stabilization, i would like to try it with. these gyros work great on my flybarless 3d helis.. can i use the vario 12mm swashplate and swash driver with the OF head or do i have to use a certain one

Rick, with the new set up I bought from Starwood, I bought the OF driver
I then bought a second hand set up without the OF driver
To be honest, I did not notice a big difference, only the throws from the swash plate were different, but this was overcome by changing the length of the ball links
I am sure that in the distant pass I drilled out a 10mm head to take a 12mm shaft, can't remember what it was for, but it did not fail so must have been OK
Good luck with what ever set up you decide on

i went ahead and bought the 12mm shaft, i guess its better safe than sorry. i can reuse my blades and convert the hp5 to right hand rotation, not scale but lefts face it, the vario ec135 is far from scale so im not going to worry about it. and buy the head swash etc etc...does anyone know of anyone whom i can buy from the modification for the tail pitch link, so it makes contact on top andf bottom of the tail pitch slider and where i can buy the vog fenestron, starwood is not listing it and all i get is a busy signal

The Vog Fenstron is now supplied by Vario art Nr 93/90 it's the 10 blade fenestron version.

thank you sir, i know its not needed, for whatever reason my fenestron has huge amounts of power...but the vog just looks awesome.

ive only hovered it with the 10mm stuff, and its got more than enuff power to quickly go against the rotation, ive always wondered what rpm its running, i dont think its anything redicvulous but i dont know the ratios of the hp5 and the fenestron gearbox ... istarted anotrher thread for that info
