Recently bought a TDR with roughly 10 flights on it. During my inspection I didn't like how the gears were meshed so I went thru the Manuel and set them all exactly how it was specified by Jan in the book. I coated them all in triflow synthetic grease as well. I just spooled it up with no blades on it and it really seems loud with a strong clicking. I reinspected the gears and they look fine no chipped teeth. So do you guys think I got something wrong or is this just how the geartrain sounds without blades? I didn't spool it very fast about 25% on 6s not 12S.

You should have a little clack clack sound
As long as it's by jans specifications, then you are good to go.

Any idea why helical gears would make clicking noises?I thought they were known for quietness.

Are you sure its coming from the gears?

Well I swapped 2 motor wire to spin the main gear backwards on the one way and it was much quieter then swapped them back and with all the gears turning it's clicky. What else do you think it is? I'll check any ideas.

When you spin the head slowly by hand, do you hear a very quiet click about 4-5 times per rotation?

Try running the motor as slow as possible and attempt to isolate approx were the noise position is on the gear....i suspect one of the drive [forward] teeth has a small imperfection on it if your certain that the noise if from the gear.

Yes it does seem to be 4-5 times per spin. If it's a imperfection in the gear do I try and fix it or fly it till it quiets?

Thats what I thought.. Listen very closely, I will bet you a Quarter that it is coming from the front part of the boom.

If that is the case it will be fine, mine does the same thing.

It did end up being fine. Once the blades were on I couldn't even hear it. It is just such an incredible machine. Wow
