Just put mine together and flew, all I can say is WOW!! Total beast compared to before. Mitchilito detailed all the things you need to do to install the unit but here are a few pics of what I did. Now I have to dial in some expo!!!. One thing though, I tried two of my stock batteries (they have been working just fine in stock setup) and after about 20 sec the esc would shut down. I have four of the turnigy 300mah batts and they will last about 2 min (still testing). Also, as you can see in the pics, I had to drill new mounting holes for my motore because I did not have room to move the motor forward. Once slotted I used two small washers to spread the load of the screw over the plastic instead of just the screw.

Did he crash? Dang, I missed it!

Great pics, Aces. I can't get my camera to take such good macros.

Flew 6 batteries through my converted MCPX today and LOVE it. I lost about a minute of flight time per battery but it's well worth it!!

What is the reason for a sheet metal screw in the main gear?

probably to keep the gear on, its designed to slide down (dry fit)

Normally trees and heli's dont mix..

A drop of CA will work too. And yes, the gear can still be removed.

Scott, how much have you spent on the helicopter with upgrades (not including the stock mCPx)? I would like to do the same, but I just can't justify spending another couple of hundred dollars on the helicopter.

You don't have to spend an arm and a leg on the conversion. If you're careful you can do it all (including the SR120 tail) for way under a hundred.

Sorry for the late response, been away a bit. I bought the wow conversion which was 141-2.00 shipped. I know that you can purchase the individual components for around 60-70.00 I think but I just am not good enough at soldering small stuff. So yea its expensive (sold my 450 pro to do it) but I LOVE the way it flies now. Only getting about 1.45 flight times with this crazy motor. May try the mid range motor. But with the 120 tail the thing is pretty well rock solid. Have not blown out the tail yet and am doing mild 3d manauvers like funnels, slow piroflips, rainbows, etc.

Did he crash? Dang, I missed it!

Aces, did you get the WOW 120 tail or did you make your own out of a 120 motor?

I don't have an mcpX yet but want one but after I added up everything, kit, WOW upgrades, batteries, and some aluminum goodies I was up to $600.00

While you can spend this much money, it is totally unnecessary in order to have a great experience with your mCPX. The grommet fix, aluminum swash(not totally necessary, but it will save money), longer solid boom and 9 tooth pinion will give you a great machine to advance your flying. While this won't avoid an occasional tail blow out it will teach you better collective management and recovery from unexpected tail movement - both good things to learn.

Well said
PH7 said it just right. The fact is, bone stock the MCPX is a fine little machine unless you're at the radical 3D stage. And if you really are at the radical 3d stage you probably can afford all the crazy MCPX mods. . . .

With all that said, you could convert to brushless for around $60 (if you can solder) and then the SR120 tail is only $16. So for less than $100 extra bucks you have a very capable 3D machine.

I know it can be done cheaper but for me there's something about these small heli's that makes me want to go all out on them. Don't ask what I have in my Trex 250se

I agree that the stock setup can be made abit better with cheap mods and upgrades. I have a Rakon swashplate and a solid one inch longer tailboom. Only other upgrade over stock are the batteries which consist of 8 Hyperion 250's .Two 300 mah Nanotechs and 4 stock eflites.
I think I may sit tight till the V2 comes out. I still may consider the Co5 motor with 8t pinion but with a 5 amp esc. From what I have heard is there is a nice power and headspeed improvement that the stock extended boom setup can handle,,but the run times remain the same or better than stock with 5 minutes being the norm.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them
