My old hotcat back to me after 2 years, the turbine PHT3 became a donor to a 1/4 scale airwolf and was sent back to made into a PHT3-L, so i have back the base plate, the raptor 90 head, and special custom made shaft for the jetcat mechanics..

Well i decided not go down the jetcat route but continue to use the Wren, I have bought a new set of zealous mechanics with turbine and gear box and have spent the weekend servicing the turbine, it needs a new combustion chamber so that will go off to Wren on Monday..
I am also looking to get a new metal base plate cut as it was bent on a hard landing/Crash by PeterRob, so I am off to see a couple of fabricators on Monday not much in Kent who do it, the existing canopy will fit nicely over the mechanics and will require some modification around rear as the turbine sits at the top on the zealous.

I will use the longer zealous boom 950mm so i can run bigger blades 950MAH, where as before the maximum i could use was 850mm

Look forward to making this and flying it.. and bringing it to some of the fly inns as it is almost scale LOL

you need to rub down the canopy and spray it in grey primer
for the fly-ins, so a little more leg pulling can be had

i do hope it will have E-Willy 2 painted on the side of it

Hey Matt, think you should refer to your Zealous with Hotcat canopy as a Zealous not a Hotcat since it is only the canopy that is Hotcat.
It's a bit like me putting a Mclaren F1 badge on my Smart car and then saying I have a McLaren.
Anyways you've done a nice job of fitting the canopy and It'll be great to see how that old secondhand Wren engine runs now we've serviced it, bet it kicks some serious butt!!
Isn't it great that we can take and old tired Wren engine and make it like new for £150 all in. And whats more do it ourselves at home...no fuss... no BS. And if you want more power just turn up the max RPM on the FADEC yourself in seconds....no fuss.

Have a question,

As I am using the zealous and the old Jetcat base plate, I have had to machine some new brackets which meant drilling new holes to support the top of the canopy, I have filled and primed the top part of the canopy.
I have used a gloss black can for the top coat, my question is, to protect that coat is it worth spraying over a layer of lacquer ?

Many thanks

Matt

hi matt

hope you are well,i think if it was me id put a clear coat over it to ad some protection,i know a paint shop that does 2 pack clear in a rattle can you just turn a knob at the bottom of the can and it mixes the contents and you then spray it like a normal rattle can but make sure you have a good face mask as 2 packs very dangerouse, once it has set give it a few weeks then flat it back with fine wet and dry t cut it polish and it will be a mirror finish.

hope to get some flying in sometime work permitting

regards paul

Thanks Paul,

I managed to get a can on Ebay, i did not know you can get 2 pack ready to use..
It really is smelly stuff and yes i did wear my Darth Vader mask,

although i was in my shirt and tie, lol, i popped in whilst on a lunch break and got it done.. whilst sun was shining, but i did have a heater on in the shed so it was lovely and warm..
