I have an e550 and would like to ask you guys

for some advice:

With 6S, Pyro 600-11 and Jive 100LV it performs well

but I would like to get more out of it!

* Shall I upgrade it to 8S ?

* Stretch it to 600mm Blades and run 8S or 10S ?

* Or even stretch it to 620mm Blades with 10S ?

Does anybody know - how a 550 (8S) performs compared to a Raptor with

600mm Blades and 8S ?

Thank you

Marc

P.s.: I don't want to switch to a different brand of helicopter

8s and crank up the headspeed
I set it up like a Trex 550. I run a Scorpion motor, 8s LiPo, flybarless head, SK720, edge 553 blades, and gear for 2400 headspeed using the ICE 100 governor. The ICE 100 is good to 8s so that makes the perfect setup. It’s a crazy fast 3D machine that way.

I am going to get the Kontronik Jive 80 HV Speed controller.

Definitely 8S or 10S

(my 6S packs are not that good any more otherwise I would have thought about a 12S set-up)

I don't know, if I should go with Hyperion 45C Lipos or Thunder Power 65C Lipos ???
(I remember, that the older generation of Thunder Power Extreme Batteries weren't that great in my own experience)

I have the Align 600 Flybarless head installed together with AC-3X.

Shall I spend lots of money again in a longer boom, belt, pushrod, new 600 size blades 10S instead of 8S ???

Or just stick with my 550mm Blades as is - and run 8S ?

At the current 6S set-up I really miss some power and performance.

On your 8S set-up :

Could you tell me what kind of Scorpion Motor and pinion you are

running? mAh of your batteries and flight times?

Thank you

I am currently flying a KS4020-1100 with a 9t pinion and the ICE governor set to 2400. I get 5-6 minutes flying hard. If you don’t fly so hard you will get more flight time. I get peaks way over 100 amps so make sure your ESC is up to the task. My ICE 100 is good for 150 amps at 8s.

If you really want an extreme setup with less flight time you could go with the HK4025-1100, 10t pinion and set the governor to 2600 You had better have a good flybarless head and blades for that one. I don’t think that the stock flybar head would stay together at that speed.

I have 2- raptor 30v2 nitro, and 2 titan 50 nitro,

thinking about converting one of the titan 50's to electric,
because I already have 12s on my 550e, It's going to be a 12s setup.
the packs I use are 40C at 2200mah.

anyone see anything wrong with this setup ?

12s will work ok but when you go to such high voltage the cost of ESC, BEC, and battery chargers go way up. I have a Power Lab 8 so 8s is perfect for me. Batteries are not that expensive any more so it may actually be cheaper to go 8s and get new batteries. Gens Ace are the best I have found so far. They last much longer than the last TP packs that I had and at a much lower cost.

I really don’t see how companies like TP are still in business. I guess that is they just sell one pack every once and a while they make such a large proffit that it keeps them going.

I think TP is doing most of the Lipo-Sponsoring for competitions.

Everybody wants to fly like a pro - if a pro flies TP - a lot of people want to

have the same brand of lipo.
.

I wasn't very happy with the older generation of Thunder Power Extreme (not

sure, how good or bad are the 65C ??)

well my 50 titan is on the operating table for the e620 conversion.

stupid me, was flipping the elevator stick back and forth, when the blade struck the tail boom, The heli exploded in the air. this is definitely my worst raptor crash to date.

going to mount the motor on the top and slide two 6s packs on the bottom.
The cost of the packs are fine with me, I run turnagy 40c packs on my trex550e they are 2200 mah. it has gobs of power at 12s.

and because of the castle Ice HV recall, I will have 2 new unused speed controls that one will find a new home in this conversion.

cant wait to get it in the air, hope for the maiden flight to happen before years end.

got a tracking number from castle that my esc's are on there way back to me,
so I started doing the conversion to electric.
put a scorpion 4025-630kv motor on a rex550 mount plate. slight modifications to the mount plate, a few holes, and taped a few holes. got the motor all mounted up with a 9 tooth pinion. According to head speed calc, 1900 head speed.

used a rex550 bottom plate, cut a few notches in it and mounted it above the landing gear to hold the packs.

just have to order a belt guide pulley and the project will be complete.

maiden flight will have 600mm blades.
