I saw a picture of a Rave 450, it had "Gorilla Gear" Trex 450 landing gear installed on it. Anyone else tried this if so please state how to mount them on this heli.

Thanks

Hey did you build your 450 yet? This can be a slow thread but here's what I think, the Rave is no Trex, you don't need any aftermarket parts and handling may well suffer with them. Curtis recommends gluing the dampers in the head with a little thick CA. The stock gear is great but I had some issues with the 2mm gear/boom support bolts snapping so I swapped them out for 2.5mm bolts and nuts. Get an extra set of tail gears just in case you get a less than optimum mesh and fry yours. You want to use something other than the mfg recommended Scorpion power but most of us with Rave 450's are using these motors so maybe check other threads for info on different motors. As for Scorpions -6 and 3s is more powerful than -8 and 3s but they both work, Typically it's -6 for 350 blades and -8 for 325's. -10 is 4s 350 blades, most power, heaviest, hardest on gears but I'm flying mine with no issues and I love it. The ICE 50 has a nice soft start. Vbar gov with YGE I don't know, you will need a Hyperion Phase Sensor to use that combo. Let us know how it all turns out

Husafreak,

Thanks for shareing your insight, could you explain a little more about where you replace the 2mm bolts with 2.5mm bolts and nuts. Also you state that we can run a Scorpy 2221-6 motor with 350mm Radix (FBL) baldes. What size pack would you use for this motor.

I am looking into useing a NEU 1107H/2Y/3.2 (sold out) for now at a lot of on-line stores.

Thanks

2221-6, 3s battery, 350mm blades

The stock 2mm bolt passes thru the boom support, a spacer, the frame, and into the landing gear. Mine snapped there twice. I simply drilled thru the whole assembly and used a 2.5mm bolt and nut instead. I was just saying there is nothing wrong with the gear but if the bolt snaps it is still embedded in the gear but you can cut/drill it out and use a larger bolt.

I just came across this thread as I'm looking into adding some different landing gear as My area I fly at isn't suitable for the stock Rave gear. That said I am running a 4s set up with 350mm mains and use a -8, have to say what a treat. One should use a 12t pinon unfortunately I don't have one so I'm using a 13T till then, all is good, head speed is around 3055 at 85% but I have the throttle curve toned down a bit, and FWIW I too use a CC50-Ice great esc. Now on onto seeing If I can get some Gorilla gear to work, or?

Holy cow that is a monster motor for 450's. I just compared it to the 3s standard 2221-8 Scorpion, it weights 29 grams (1 oz.) more, same kV 3500 so good for 3s, amps not given but the -8 is OK for use with an ICE 50 but I don't know about the KDE, it is way more expensive and a 3.5mm shaft is too big for the standard Rave pinions. Stock 2200 mAh packs may give short run times. The stock Rave tail drive gears already have problems handling high power 4s systems. Also the Rave tends to be nose heavy with 4s 2200 packs. Call Ready Heli to see if you can do it, I'm not home to check measurements, and good luck!
