Ok, Im going to start building my first 600 size electric this winter, and.. out of curiousity.. (and to open a can of worms) LOL.. I have a few questions.
If you buy a motor from Scorpion, is it better to buy an esc from Scorpion that matches Scorpian products.. or something else..
also.. I've heard various bad things about the Castle esc's burning up, (witnessed a brand new one in a planker a few weeks ago) just caught on fire first time out.. so whats the scoop there.. ?

Basically I guess, Im curious as to what everytone thinks makes the best motor/esc.. that also wont break the bank?

Thanks

using any other esc with the scorpion is fine. and as far as the castles the 120ice line has been having the vast majority of the problems and I believe that is not fixed, time will tell... any controller besides the 120 is fine for sure though.

I just ordered a YGE 120 HV to try out on my TDR I hear it works with vbar gov.

I'll be honest though, my best flying heli(motor wise) is my trex 700 with a 700mx and a hobbywing 120. Headspeed is very consistent through the flight and its an absolute joy to fly.

My second favorite is my Logo 600 with a scorpion/jive setup. I run low headspeed and it stays pretty consistent. Flying for 9 minutes is also fun on an electric.

The one I hate the most is my neu/castle 700e. Headspeed is all over the place on that turd. I blame castle!

I personally believe Scorpion + Kontronik is best, but others may disagree.

$600 may seem a bargain, if your esc spurts flames everywhere inside your heli , lol. just kidding. Seriously, the Jive 120hv is very reliable with quality components, a great governor, and built-in bec.

Life is meaningful flying helis.

i was always super happy with my 4025-630 and ice 80HV. i was running a 14t pinion on the stock .7 mod main gear.

later i was running a 4035-500 with a 13t mod 1 pinion with a trex 700 main gear. it made no difference just sucked down my batteries faster and came down a bit cooler than the 4025 did. to be honest power to weight is likely better with the 4025.

are you looking at a logo or align or what?

Who cares... its just money...

Jive esc as it protects itself and the equipment on the heli while having the best bec in the business. For 600 size 6s 100lv 12s 80hv, no need to get 120hv for a 600
Motor doesnt really matter except the align motors dont all work well with the jive, some u have to run ksa mode which degrades performance. Off the shelf i heard good things about xera, but pyro 700 series my motor of choice. single wire wind, runs cool and plenty power.

Common sense may not be common after all

Kontronik stuff is superb, however there is another option that is a lot less expensive. The Jeti Spin series with the new software. It's robust and dependable, has a very smooth slowstart with the new software (up to 15 seconds, adjustable in tenths of a second increments), and has auto-bailout. They don't have a BEC like the Kontronik but for the $200~$300 savings you can buy a good BEC

Trev, I really havent decided yet as to the heli. I was due to have my name for a TDR this month but cant afford it right now, so with xmas bonus was thinking of getting perhaps.. a 500 size to start, Yeah I know it is a far cry from a TDR, but it is a start. Other then the TDR I wouldnt go with a 700 size bird. I was going to if I could get the TDR simply because I have always wanted one of Jans Helis.. but it wasnt to be this time around. It's going to be a budget build, not necc cheap build, but probably buy used stuff here on RR to save cost over new. I simply dont want to put 700-800 in electronics if at all possible.

I'm very partialto kontronik cause they just work. That being said since the vbar gov has come out I've got the gov feature on a hobbywing esc and a yge and both perform flawless at a lower cost.

You want the best combo, Xera and Jive, or kontonic/jive. You shell out the extra cash for reliability and effeciency which equals longer flight times.

All helis and planes have an expiration date stamped on them...you only find it after you crash!!
